JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:

The Tax Director is responsible for applying industry specific knowledge to advise clients on the tax implications evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. In this role, the Tax Director is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, and recognizing, communicating potential risks and potential changes in the tax policy, and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and resolution of questions from federal / state agencies. The Tax Director actively participates in the marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise and specialization while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Identifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team and provides research methodology for efficient research process
• Acts as a Mentor to associates, senior associates and managers
• Applies general knowledge of multiple tax specialties (i.e. International, PTET, SALT, Estate Planning) for issue identification and resolution
• Ensures both that clients comply with all federal state and local tax authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens
• Applies expert knowledge of the process of combining tax knowledge and knowledge of business/industry to recommend solutions and maximize results
• Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients’ current and future taxes.
• Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates, senior associates and managers
• Recognized as industry expert in specialized field of taxation
• Use expertise to advise clients on tax implications and recommend alternative courses of action and identify different methods of compliance
• Reviews work prepared by the team and provide review comments
• Practices hands-on client service delivery
• Ability to supervise a team

EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

• LLM in Taxation is a plus
• Ten (10) or more years of prior public accounting experience
• Masters in Taxation is a plus
• Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships
• Strong leadership and management skills
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• CPA or JD required
• Four-year degree in Accounting
• Experience with tax research and planning software
• Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role beneficial
• Expertise in pass through entities (LLC’s, LLP’s, S Corporations) is required
• Possess people development and delegation skills, including training/instruction, with a positive attitude
