Job Description
Sophia Learning (part of Strategic Education, Inc.) is an industry-leading provider of low-cost, self-paced online general education courses that are transferable for college credit.


We are looking for a strategy and analytics leader to join our team to help us define, plan, and execute Sophia’s long-term strategic priorities. This team member will also be responsible for managing a small team of analysts and data scientists required to provide day-to-day insight that drives our organization forward.


The ideal candidate will have prior top-tier consulting experience (or comparable), is highly structured in their approach to solving problems, and knows how to get things done.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Survey prospective and current customers to understand where we can add additional value via new products and services.
  • Evangelize smart data analytics that informs decision-making at all levels internally.
  • Identify leading and lagging indicators of value that can be quantified and tracked over time to measure performance of strategic execution. Manage, Track and Analyze KPI delivery.
  • Analyze and drive insights from quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Lead a small team of analysts to drive meaningful and actionable insight from large, complex datasets.
  • Coordinate work across cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives are achieved and timelines are met; conduct research, financial modeling, data gathering and analysis.
  • Present strategic recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.
  • Establish clear business cases for growth opportunities with rationale for strategic investments and improvement opportunities by assessing market potential, consumer/customer needs, the competitive landscape, and other relevant considerations.
  • Analyze fit and value for potential strategic partnerships.

  • Advanced data analysis skills using tools such as Excel, SQL, as well as visualization tools such as Tableau / PowerBI (Preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to influence at all levels in the organization.
  • Natural instinct to use data (quantitative and qualitative) to solve complex problems.
  • Hypothesis-driven mentality with a track record of creative and analytical problem solving.
  • Passion for solving problems in education sector is a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.


Work Experience


  • 1 to 2 years of demonstrated experience leveraging qualitative and quantitative insights to plan and prioritize ideas.
  • 4+ years of experience in corporate strategy and / or strategic analytics (prior experience with top-tier management consulting firm or similar preferred).


Education


  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Marketing, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles, travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%).
  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers
  • Other essential functions and marginal job functions are subject to modification
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs
