The safety and health of the employee takes precedence over any other duties of this job. Management problem-solving techniques in routine job activities and team settings, performs all responsibilities in a manner which ensures Sonoco corporate safety standards are met. If unable to maintain processes within established limits or meet specifications, is fully authorized to stop the operations, and seek assistance.
What you’ll be doing:
LEADERSHIP:
- Work with plant supervision to ensure the safety of all individuals in the facility.
- Key member of the management team.
- Understand and communicate all applicable safety and environmental developments and initiatives.
- Recognized as a safety role model by Leadership Team (Management) and Team Members (hourly personnel).
- Assist plant supervision will all requirements and responsibilities of the Core Safety Program.
- Committed to achieving and maintaining an injury free workplace.
- Conduct one-on-one safety discussions
- Lead and implement all Safety Programs and facilitate related activities.
- Primary contact for reporting injuries and investigations
Training / Compliance:
- Assist supervision with all safety-related issues.
- Work with the plant leadership team to ensure all safety training requirements are completed, updated, and documented.
- Ensure all forklift drivers and operators are fully trained and certified.
- Ensure compliance with State, Division and Corporate safety requirements.
- Insure all new employees receive and review required safety training and documentation prior to starting work.
Maintenance and Engineering:
- Work with maintenance and engineering to ensure all installations and guards are done in compliance with OSHA regulations, Insurance carrier, Fire dept and Fire Inspection.
- Post all safety work orders weekly and insures they are scheduled for completion as soon as possible.
- Work with the maintenance department to ensure contractors follow the safety program and proper procedures.
Meetings:
- Coordinate safety meeting schedules, agendas, materials, and activities for all safety meetings.
- Attend corporate safety meetings/conferences (in person or teleconference as required).
- Distribute all safety materials including weekly statistics, safety meeting minutes, steering committee minutes, safety inspections, audit results and all other safety information.
- Facilitate the steering committee meetings and schedule meetings for team updates.
- Facilitate all Safety Sub-teams to make sure they are moving forward with their objectives. Where possible the safety coordinator should utilize these teams in addressing safety-related issues / challenges that come up.
Documentation:
- Gather and analyze all pertinent safety data to improve safety performance.
- Conduct safety incident investigations, determine corrective action and record all safety incidents and action items into the safety database.
- Develop, monitor, and track progress of all aspects of the Safety Action Plan.
- Review all Division/Corporate Safety Incidents, TIRs, Close Calls, First Aids, etc. with the plant develop preventative actions when necessary.
- Ensure all required manuals such as SDS, HECP, JSA, SSP’s, Confined Space Entry, new employee training and safety rules manuals are complete, up to date and available to all employees.
- Maintain and post all emergency evacuation routes.
- Maintain all related safety, training, and audit files in an organized manner.
- Facilitate all daily / monthly safety audits and compile all audit results and track efficiencies.
- Track and analyze observation thru Intelex and present results to management team and Safety Committee.
- Ensure required warning signs, directional signs, informative signs, etc. are displayed in the mill areas.
Equipment:
- Ensure emergency lighting, exit signs, fire extinguishers, hoses, first aid materials, slings and chains, ladders, eyewash, and shower stations are inspected regularly and maintained to standards.
- Ensure all safety equipment audits are performed and all equipment is in the proper location and in good condition.
- Maintain the Confined Space entry program, including updates to diagrams, calibration of equipment, training all personnel and associated documentation.
- Maintain an adequate supply of safety equipment and supplies.
Governmental Agencies / Environmental:
- Insure timely, complete, and accurate reporting is performed.
- Ensure compliance with all Governmental Agencies including OSHA.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, division and corporate safety regulations and requirements.
This position is located at our Plant City, FL Facility.
We’d love to hear from you if:
Minimum:
- 2 or more years’ experience in a manufacturing environment leading safety compliance
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize workload
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred:
- Safety Certification
- Working knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 certification
- Working knowledge of federal and state regulations including but not limited to CFR 21, cGMP, ISO, OSHA
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety, or related field
Compensation:
The annual base salary range for this role is from $63,750.00 to $76,500.00.
An annual bonus is awarded to eligible employees upon attaining various business and individual goals as defined by the Company and the department leader. This annual bonus is discretionary, and the Company has sole discretion to determine the amount of the award.
