We invite you to join JPL's Mobility and Robotic Systems Section as a Robotics Systems/Software Engineer to work on mobile robots and/or manipulation and sample acquisition systems deployed to terrestrial or extraterrestrial environments or undergoing testbed validation. This role reports administratively to the Technical Group Supervisor and programmatically to a Project Team Lead or Research Task Manager. As a Robotics Systems/Software Engineer in a Robotics Operations Group, you will create command sets and/or software tools to achieve operations or test objectives, execute operations in the test or mission environment, and analyze resulting data to assess system health and performance. Likely projects include Mars Rover Operations, Mars Sample Return missions in development, and terrestrial and extraterrestrial technology demonstrations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and validate procedures and command files for daily spacecraft, field, or test venue operations of robotic systems.
- Perform on-console operations and/or testbed shifts
- Develop and implement operations process improvements and/or software toolsets
- Analyze data to assess health, safety, and performance assessment of robotic systems and generate reports.
- Work in a lab facility with hardware, ground support equipment and test equipment
- Develop scripts to automate data analysis, command file generation, and other process elements
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, JAVAScript etc.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, System Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with relevant robotics experience
- Excellent communication (oral, written, presentation), interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Knowledge in one or more robotics subdiscipline
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Linux or other Unix-like operating systems
- Proficiency in C++, C
- Demonstrated innovation, initiative, and leadership
- Experience in robotics operation, validation, and/or performance assessment
- Experience in data processing and analysis
- Development of software for embedded applications
- Experience in image processing and analysis

Hiring range for this job may be adjusted based on primary work location outside of Pasadena, California. This adjusted range will be provided to candidates by the Recruiter when applicable.
