MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
Primary function of this position is to manage a team of direct reports within the IACC R&D Core Test Lab by providing daily guidance to the team in relation to a large project or several smaller projects. The Core Test Lab performs testing, documentation, material management and witness review activities for design verification, developmental stability, and characterization studies in support of assay development for new IACC product launch and reformulation. This new team member will collaborate with peer supervisors to ensure consistency across the lab and provide development opportunities to direct reports. Additionally, will work with investigation team to resolve test issues, drive testing packages and witness activities to completion as well as field questions from direct reports regarding protocols, testing schemes and assays.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Interface with other disciplines/cross functional teams, customers, internal clients, project staff and internal/external experts as required; identify, authenticate, and respond to crises in a professional manner; assemble appropriate resources to deal with and resolve the situation effectively; keep emotions in control during periods of high stress; lead by example.
- Work Hours: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, but must be willing to work 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm when needed
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies, quality systems and project goals; assure that Design Control and compliance requirements are met; ensure that the necessary documentation is in place to meet quality and regulatory requirements; participate in audits.
- Identify resource requirements and time schedules; develop goals and implementation plans; translate ADD (Abbott Diagnostics Division) goals into the day-to-day activities necessary to accomplish them; evaluate direct report performance; develop contingency plans to accommodate unforeseen events.
- Supervise Core Test Lab – Work with department scheduler to support proper level loading of testing across scientists. Collaborate with peer supervisors to ensure consistency across the lab and provide development opportunities to direct reports. Work with investigation team to resolve test issues. Drive testing packages and witness activities to completion. Field questions from direct reports regarding protocols, testing schemes and assays.
- Prepare and present written and oral reports and other presentations to senior management and internal audiences.
- Develop and maintain the laboratory Facilities, Utilities, & Equipment necessary to support the Core Test Lab.
- Travel Requirement: 5%
Position Accountability / Scope
Accountable for the successful completion of project tasks on time and within budget. Accountable for managing resources (direct and matrix) assigned to project. Includes mentoring and providing feedback to team members.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Preferred / Ideal / Optional Qualifications:
- 1 (one) year of which must be in leadership/supervisory/project management roles.
- PEAR, EDMS or experience with similar Data Management Systems
- Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs (In Vitro Diagnostics) and Biologics.
- Broad knowledge of product design requirements, manufacturability, cGMP, FDA and CBER (Center for Biologic Evaluation & Research) regulations,
- Experience with Abbott Architect and/or Alinity products
Required Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree, B.S in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics
Experience/Background
- Has good knowledge of science and the ability to apply more complex and advance principles and techniques with experience
- Practical Lab Skills with increasing knowledge complexity with experience
- More advanced Problem –solving skills with experience
- 7 + years of progressively responsible positions in a research development environment. M.S or PhD strongly preferred
- Minimum 7 years
