Job Description

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, you will directly support Blue Origin’s R&D teams working to develop new, state-of-the-art technologies and systems needed to advance human spaceflight. Responsibilities include general fabrication, maintenance, and operation of mechanical systems where you will apply your technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to support R&D projects, systems, and critical infrastructure.

Provides tactical and technical support to Engineering/Production/Manufacturing by performing activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro/mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment. Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics and logic systems. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions. Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in resolving methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.
Responsibilities:
  • Plan and communicate assembly steps for complex mechanical and/or electrical installations
  • Safely work with hazardous systems, containing chemicals and/or high pressure
  • Work with engineers to review design concepts, provide feedback for ease of assembly, and support development tests
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Review, edit and follow work instructions for assembly tasks
Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and understand aerospace 2D/3D drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings – 3D modeling (CREO)
  • Capable of using precision tools to accurately measure tight tolerances (calipers, height gauge, scales, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience in a mechanical or electrical field
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts
  • Experience with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, etc.) and pressurized system safety
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Experience working with standard mechanical tools, fabrication shop equipment, Band saw, Cornice Break, Tube Bender\Flaring and facing machines and Drill Press.
  • Experience with pneumatic systems, propellant loading and off-loading systems
  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace or related fields
Must be physically able to:
  • Lift and carry 25 lbs.
  • Climb ladders and stairs, and work in small, restricted areas
Desired:
  • Tube bending experience
  • Ability to use of 3D CAD tools (CREO is preferred), and ability to read and interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard
  • Working knowledge of a variety of tube/fluid applications including GN2, GHe, hydraulics and cryogenics
  • Knowledge of drawing review, scheduling systems, work order systems, inventory and various issue tracking systems
  • Experience cleaning tube systems to aerospace or medical standards
  • Clean room experience

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays for all regular employees (including part-time), fixed-term, and interns.
