Job Description

Project Manager, Adult Health & Wellness (F/T Temporary)

About New York Cares

New York Cares exists to turn passion into action, leverage resources through partnership, and create long-lasting change across New York City. We've become the City's leading volunteer management organization by adapting and responding to our most pressing community needs – from everyday challenges like food insecurity and educational inequity to relief efforts in response to 9/11 and the COVID-19 pandemic.

We foster dynamic relationships with all stakeholders by committing to our core values: equity, humanity, and trust. We see value in each of our stakeholders. Be it our volunteers, donors, staff, or community partners, we know we work best when we work together. When new challenges arise, we look to our network of over 1,000 nonprofits, schools, and government agencies across the five boroughs to inform our response. We build trust with our 50,000 annual volunteers who give their time and skills to meet the current needs.

As we grow our team, we are committed to creating a workforce that reflects the communities we serve. New York Cares is dedicated to fostering a workplace where every employee feels valued, finds a place of belonging, and brings their authentic self to work.

About the Program Design Team

The Program Design team, part of the Program Design & Evaluation (PDE) department, is responsible for the identification and design of programs, dissemination of program-related information via training and supporting materials, shaping cause-related organizational goals, and holding expertise in the role volunteers can play to meaningfully addressing issues in New York City.

About the Role

Note: This role is funded by a one-year grant and is slated to end June 30, 2024. An extension is possible but not guaranteed as it is pending additional funding.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Program Design, the Project Manager is a vital member of the Program Design team and an authority on the intersection of volunteerism and the cause areas of Seniors’ Health & Wellness, Seniors’ Education, Adult Health & Wellness.

The Project Manager will lead the design and implementation of Mission VetCheck: a volunteer phone outreach program (“phone banking”), in partnership with the New York City Department of Veterans Services (DVS). Through this program, volunteers make phone calls via CallHub to veterans throughout New York City to provide referrals to services and to DVS.

During the two years after the program began in July 2020, volunteers made over 28,000 phone calls to veterans. With the program slated to resume in the fall of 2023, the new Project Manager will work collaboratively with program division staff to:

  • Coordinate with volunteers and volunteer Team Leaders,
  • Oversee the management and training of volunteers,
  • Redesign elements of the program as needed,
  • Liaise with the Department of Veterans Services,
  • Manage the call script,
  • Manage the CallHub platform, and
  • Support the basic operations of the program.

The Project Manager will also serve as the internal point of contact for their portfolio of cause areas, supporting related information sessions and learning events while also engaging with partners and external vendors to document programmatic logic models and theories of change.

The Mission Vet Check Project Manager will also impact the scope and scalability of programmatic content related to other New York Cares vulnerable populations programming (such as Seniors Health & Wellness, Seniors Education, and Adult Health & Wellness) by offering consultative support to leaders in the PDE department related to programmatic strategy, design, processes, and training,

This role is ideal for somebody deeply passionate about serving seniors, veterans, adults with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations and eager to convert that passion and knowledge into evidence-based, impactful volunteer programming that creates a more equitable New York City.
