Job Summary:
The Messenger is seeking a talented and passionate Social Health Trends reporter to be part of a team that will be unmatched in filing fast, accurate, quick hits and headlines on sometimes market-moving news – often building stories out a sentence or two at a time. The ideal candidate has their finger on the pulse of what health trends are catching attention on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter.
Responsibilities:
- Swiftly execute high-impact flash news stories at the direction of the Health Breaking News Editor and do so with trust-building accuracy and compelling writing.
- Live to be fast and accurate, while taking pride of ownership in every word you type and compelling headline you devise.
- Discerning which trends may hold merit and which are bunk based on existing research.
- Stay up-to-the-minute informed about trends emerging in the health field on multiple social media platforms.
- Work closely with the Breaking News Editor to expand on existing stories, always looking for angles that others may have missed.
- Be entrenched in the medical discussions on multiple mainstream platforms, identifying the leading voices and keeping up with trends and products they are pushing.
Requirements:
- Familiarity with different content management systems and editorial tools.
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in journalism, English, or a subject area in a related field.
- Impeccable writing skills or the desire to develop them.
- Exceptional digital journalism skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the platform.
- A hunger to deliver straight-up news clearly, concisely, and honestly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of AP style and other editorial guidelines.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a health or wellness reporter/intern at a news organization.
- Strong news judgment and the ability to craft stories that will excite and inform The Messenger’s wide-ranging audience with smart, fluid writing and attention-getting presentation.
- The stamina to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
**Salary Range: $65,000K-$75,000K (contingent upon experience)**
