DESCRIPTION
The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to creating and promoting public health innovations to advance equity, justice, and wellbeing for all and has more than 80 primary salaried faculty, 20 secondary faculty, 250+ personnel, 225 postgraduate students, and over 650 undergraduate majors. The School includes activities in the public health disciplines of biostatistics and bioinformatics, epidemiology, global health, health policy, health behavior, health equity, public mental health, environmental and climate health, and preventive medicine.
The School has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Research Centers of Excellence focused on wireless and population health systems, health promotion and equity, women's health, and tobacco control, and has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Jacobs School of Engineering, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Moores Cancer Center, Design Lab, Qualcomm Institute, ACTRI, HDSI, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School.
The School houses five recharge cores providing services to UC San Diego and external customers. Research in the School includes ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts. The School has and administers two PhD programs (public health and biostatistics), a Master of Public Health professional degree program, a MS in Biostatistics, the only Health Sciences undergraduate program (BSPH), a Master of Applied Science in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations run in conjunction with UC San Diego Extension, and a Preventive Medicine Residency program.
Under general direction of a TREDS Program Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs that aim to reduce unsafe driving behaviors among commercial drivers nationally. The incumbent will be tasked with the design, planning, execution, and assessment of program components including PowerPoint curriculum, educational brochures, info-graphics, social media posts, YouTube videos, and website content. Assists in the development of exercises and delivery methods for in-person instruction and e-learning programs. Confers with subject matter experts to accomplish program objectives. The incumbent participates in the overall strategic planning process with the team and contributes to outcome evaluation. Participates in report writing and delivery of training and presentations.
The Education and Training Specialist assists in the planning and execution of small and large-scale events for professionals and industry leaders in the commercial motor vehicle industry, including summits, workshops, training programs, and webinars. Oversees arrangement of event logistics, such as space, technology support, vendor contracts, etc. Serves as a contact with event venues and vendors, and oversees contracts. Manages participant registration and creates promotional marketing materials, such as flyers, emails, website and newsletter content. Provides direction prior to the event, during the event, and conducting a post-event assessment. Anticipates issues and poses successful implementation plans. Maintains record of outreach and attendance data.
Provides a high level of customer service and program administration. Responds to a variety of information requests through interpersonal, telephonic, and electronic communications. Responsibilities include: research literature to inform curriculum development; promote training and educational events; scheduling and delivery of training programs and technical assistance; contribute to the maintenance of a website and collateral materials; manage the project evaluation database; maintain project records; coordinate meetings; perform administrative functions in support of project activities. Recruit and oversee student support staff.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced public educational program professional to resolve a wide range of educational program issues and needs assessments. Develops new public educational programs, and works on complex public educational programs of diverse scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering courses, presentations, and development programs. Receives general instructions and exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for course and instructional improvement. Fully knowledgeable in course subject matter and program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Thorough and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills. Excellent control of standard English in written, spoken, and electronic communication to facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction with a diverse population. Demonstrated ability to edit and proofread material for accuracy and completeness. Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence construction, and formatting styles. Excellent public speaking skills.
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in delivering programs. Ability to select appropriate content for presentations based on audience composition and excellent organizational skills to plan and oversee meetings, events, and conferences.
- Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures.
- Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. Demonstrated skill in using personal computers and a wide variety of software packages for word processing, spreadsheets, database processing, presentations, web and publication design, and calendaring (e.g. Microsoft Office suite, Adobe suite, etc.). Knowledge of e-mail systems as a primary form of communication; accomplished skill at navigating the Internet for information retrieval.
- Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
- Thorough knowledge of functional areas and understanding of how work may impact other areas.
- Thorough skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new presentations/courses to meet organizational needs. Skill in researching, compiling, organizing, interpreting, and selecting data and materials from various sources. Ability to extract and analyze information from databases.
- Thorough knowledge of current public educational programs and trends. Ability to design and evaluate programmatic and organizational strategies to determine their effectiveness.
- Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. Ability to recommend alternative solutions when new sources of information are developed and the solution is not readily apparent.
- Knowledge of managing a portfolio of business and management courses at the university or corporate level.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision, to learn quickly, exercise good judgment, take initiative, provide feedback, demonstrate flexibility and maintain composure while working under pressure of frequent interruptions and changing priorities with strict deadlines. Excellent organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Skill in using website software such as WordPress and ability to use desk-publishing software, such as Adobe Creative Suite. Willingness to regularly maintain and update technology skills as required.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $43,900 - $91,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $21.02 - $44.01
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
