Job Description
Title: Project Coordinator IV/Safety Policy Manager


with subject matter expertise to help drive client’s strategy in the youth well-being space, with particular focus on suicidality and self-injury (SSI), eating disorders and body image, and well-being across our policies, technology, global partnerships, support resources, and through engagement with external experts and organizations who specialize in issues such as suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, depression, and more.


Location: Remote (Approved client Remote Locations: Philadelphia, PA, San Diego, CA, Baltimore, MD, Los Angeles, CA, and Boston, MA.

  • Client’s Safety Policy team is dedicated to understanding the safety, health and well-being impacts of client’s platform and to crafting a comprehensive approach to these issues that allows us to 1) work with experts to develop policies and build tools that support the health and well-being of our global community, and 2) partner with expert organizations to develop resources to support those who may be vulnerable and create awareness of these issues.
  • Client is looking for a Safety Policy Manager with subject matter expertise to help drive client’s strategy in the youth well-being space, with particular focus on suicidality and self-injury (SSI), eating disorders and body image, and well-being across our policies, technology, global partnerships, support resources, and through engagement with external experts and organizations who specialize in issues such as suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, depression, and more.
This candidate will be responsible for:


  • They should have experience driving multiple projects or teams in a fast-paced environment with relevant focus and expertise in SSI and eating disorder/body image issues, including measurable success in advising product teams in that area.
  • Issue spotting new and emerging issues, as well as solve problems; (4) counseling product teams to build with safety and integrity, and to consider the unique needs and implications around youth well-being issues.
  • This candidate should be a strong communicator who excels at working collaboratively and effectively within highly cross functional global teams and consistently delivers high-quality work under pressure.
  • Bringing subject matter expertise from both their own experience and engagement with experts and expert organizations to our product, operations, and integrity work
  • The ideal candidate is a constant learner, skilled at prioritizing and problem-solving with limited oversight, well-organized, good at navigating ambiguity, expert in juggling multiple tasks/timelines at once, and passionate about this subject matter, the services we provide, and the people that we serve.
  • Driving the Safety Policy Team’s investigations into certain SSI, eating disorder and body image, mental health and well-being issues and abuses on client’s platforms
Responsibilities:


  • Execute a strategy in partnership with regional policy teams to build, monitor, and engage with external stakeholders in relation to client’s policies and products related to youth well-being, specifically SSI and eating disorders/body image.
  • Advise and support client teams working on safety, mental health, and well-being content, product policies, tools, operational responses, programs, resources and guides.
  • Lead development of content for all external facing SSI, eating disorders/body image, mental health, and well-being guidance, responses, supports, resources and presentations.
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and do any task required to get the job done
  • Work with and provide subject matter expertise to client’s product, operations, integrity, research, policy, and program teams to support those using our platforms to build connections and communities that support and foster mental health and well-being.
  • Responsible for understanding the global landscape of academics, civil society, advocates, think tanks and other relevant global stakeholders on youth well-being issues, with a focus on suicide and self-injury and eating disorders/body image.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to monitor, respond to and get ahead of certain mental health and well-being issues, particularly those related to young people.
  • Work within client’s Policy team to formulate certain policies that govern user, advertiser, and developer behavior on Facebook and uniquely impact the safety, health and well-being of people on client’s platforms.
  • This includes policies to encourage safe and responsible online activity as well as policies that deter or mitigate certain heath, well-being, and safety risks.
Minimum Qualifications:


  • Experience operating independently, highly organized, autonomous, and structured
  • Experience with consensus-building and proven track record of collaborative approach to problem solving and teamwork
  • Experience producing results under deadlines, juggling multiple projects at once, finding pragmatic and creative solutions to business issues, providing concise and business-focused advice, and making sound judgments
  • Demonstrated experience working analytically in a fast-paced environment and thinking, moving and executing quickly
  • Experience growing and managing strategic partnerships, and presenting before internal and external stakeholders.
  • 10 plus years of experience in mental health, well-being and technology.
Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working in public policy, advocacy, or service delivery around mental health issues and at the intersection of technology, social media, and safety
  • Experience working in the intersection of technology, social media, and safety
  • Experience working with civil society organizations and international institutions around the world
  • Experience working cross-functionally with numerous teams across policy, legal, operations, programs and product teams
  • Experience working in a rapidly growing and fast-paced environment
  • Advanced degree in mental health, public health, or health policy
Top 3 must-have hard skills:


  • 8+ YEO
  • Expertise in SSI/mental health; background in product advising in tech and working with experts; incredibly collaborative; self-starter.
Good to have skills:


  • Ideal profile: ideally a former clinical psychologist who worked with young people in areas ranging from SSI to mental health, who pivoted to tech in the last 5 years and who has worked in a tech company facing similar challenges as ours.

  • Overall day to day key tasks they are performing: Product advising in suicidality and self-injury (SSI), mental health and well-space, with an emphasis on how those areas apply to young people; working with experts and organizations to help develop policies and build tools to support our global community, especially our younger users; partnering with expert organizations to develop resources to support those who may be vulnerable and to create awareness of these issues.

Pay Range: $50 - $60


The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
