Job Description
What to Expect
Tesla’s Materials Engineering group is looking for a highly motivated engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world’s energy transition – Battery Cathode Materials. This includes the development and scale-up of novel, high-energy and low-cost cathode materials and the development of first-of-a-kind processes that shorten the path from mine to battery cell.

What You’ll Do
  • Liaise with the other engineering functions and coordinate cross-functional review of supplier drawings to facilitate integration of purchased equipment into the overall plant design compliant with engineering standards and the project scope requirements
  • Provide technical support throughout the project construction and commissioning phases retaining overall technical responsibility for equipment until successful handover to the customer
  • Represent the single point of contact with the package vendor for engineering activities ensuring actions/timelines are being adhered to.
  • Review vendor calculation packages against applicable codes, standards contract documents and design basis. Comment/approve mechanical / structural design packages.
  • Participate in cross-functional package review meetings including P&ID review, HAZOP, layout review and model review
  • Prepare technical specification for enquiry/purchase and undertake technical review, Help review the proposals from technical viewpoint
  • Review and validate proposed designs from a mechanical perspective (loads, stress, rotating equipment, seal selection, pump bases & general equipment support etc.).
  • Prepare request for quote packages including project equipment specifications, data Sheets, vendor document requirement lists, Inspection Test Plans, FATs, Issue for Purchase Packages (rotating equipment, tanks, vessels, piping, skids)
  • Provide feedback to continuously improve internal work processes as Tesla grows in the chemical manufacturing space.
  • Develop construction strategy for modular units taking into consideration equipment arrival time, lifting/stacking strategy and mechanical considerations such as maximum loading, lift points, etc.
What You’ll Bring

  • Leadership, good communication, teamwork and influencing skills
  • Prefer experience with rotating mechanical equipment (Ex: Pumps, Agitators, mechanical seals, etc.) along with fixed heat transfer equipment (heat exchangers, boilers, thermal expansions/stress analysis, etc).
  • Minimum degree level in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5+ years of experience in a industrial chemical plant (design, operations or reliability)
  • Practical hands on experience with operations or reliability for industrial chemical plants (common failure modes, informed opinions on selecting equipment parameters).
  • Dedicated and driven approach with a strong grasp of technical principles, attention to details and desire to continually learn, improve and contribute
  • Demonstrable experience in project management, planning and leading the execution of out-sourced complex engineered packaged equipment and processing facilities with schedule and budget responsibility (or similar related experience)
  • A sound knowledge of applicable local standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
