Lead Engineer, Process-Materials Global Nonwovens

The Process-Materials Engineer for this role will support process development, optimization, problem solving with both existing and new materials where the physics and applied engineering principles of Web handling and Winding are in scope. Specific projects will relate to how nonwoven webs move, are wound or unwound on either a nonwovens asset or the converting machines of the businesses who utilize the materials from the Nonwovens sector within Kimberly-Clark. This role will also support Life Cycle Maximization activities for Nonwoven Materials. Activities include Material specification/systems management; Lead/Support projects related to cost savings, quality and/or product supply; managing Customer Relationships.
In this role, you will:
  • Activities include process specification development, operations and engineering training development and execution, author process checkout plan, lead PCO activities onsite for asset startups.
  • Lead/Support process development projects through commercialization, including process design and equipment selection to start-up support to deliver desired customer/user benefits, product specification and machine performance targets, collaborating across functional areas to deliver on time and within specification.
  • Develop/Manage Customer relationships for associated Materials.
  • Own/Manage Material related systems (i.e specifications, product safety, SAP, etc.).
  • Plan and carry out project responsibilities with limited assistance and direction.
  • Seek, recognize, define, and solve problems to achieve unit objectives.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for existing/modified Nonwovens materials.
  • Assess complex web handling technical issues to determine root cause and develop/recommend solutions.
  • Build capability to become a web handling SME using multiple means such as off-site training, mill visits and by learning from other internal web handling SME’s.
  • Lead/Support Material projects related to cost savings, quality and/or product supply.

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Web handling and winding science; specifically, the physics and engineering principles associated with this rare area of academic and applied engineering with ability to translate that knowledge into execution of process or product related initiatives.
  • Manufacturing and Converting experience with nonwoven processes in a plant assignment is desired.
  • Understanding of key equipment manufacturers, and how their products can meet our needs in the web handling space.
  • Knowledge and background in Nonwoven Materials & processes such as Spunbond, Meltblown, Film, Lamination treatment.
  • Experience in capital asset build/install/start-up, optimization.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Textile, Material, Paper or Chemical Engineering.
