Laser Welding Engineer, Cell Engineering

Tesla’s Austin, Texas based cell manufacturing engineering group is looking for a highly-motivated manufacturing engineer to accelerate our next generation battery cell manufacturing program. This role will be involved in the design, development, commissioning and ramping of high-speed automated equipment, while working in a cross-functional team to test, validate, and roll-out process and product design changes.

The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to develop, engineer and innovate new processes and high-volume automation equipment with the Laser Weld manufacturing team. Specifically, this engineer is expected to be or become a process expert in the field of laser welding applications, including work in both lab environment and transfer error free processes to high volume manufacturing. Other responsibilities would include supporting development and production ramp of highly automated manufacturing systems to laser weld components into completed assemblies. The Senior Engineer works closely with Tesla’s internal Product Design, Operations, Facilities, Production and Quality Engineering teams and coordinates cross-functional design activities with equipment suppliers to develop scalable innovations in laser weld processes, tools and defect free quality. This individual will also assume ownership of the design and technical transfer of the laser welding tools to Tesla Operations, qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.
