What To Expect
The successful candidate will have technical knowledge and Manufacturing Engineering experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment - specifically, experience in managing new product and technology introductions, new equipment installation, upgrade existing equipment type projects including process optimizations during launch. You will work closely with Design Engineering, Quality and Production to take new vehicle designs or design changes from initial concept through prototype development and into full production. Knowledge and experience of project life cycle from Concept & Build through installation to equipment handover is essential. In addition to developing manufacturing equipment and processes, Manufacturing Engineers work with cross-functional teams throughout the facility to ensure timely installation, commissioning and launch of equipment. Experience in process automation, cost justification, cell concept development, robots, PLC integration is required. Should have high level understanding of safety regulations as they relate to complex automated equipment design with focus on impact of those design decisions on operations and maintenance activities.

What You’ll Do
- Occasional travel is expected – e.g. for vendor visits, equipment installation and commissioning.
- Ensure that all equipment, processes, and methodologies comply with applicable standards, company policy and all Health and Safety Laws, Acts, Regulations and Codes.
- Ensure manufacturing lines meet uptime, availability, and reliability metrics – OEE, cycle time, quality and first time through.
- Interface with facilities / MEP team to forecast utilities requirements, provide utility submittals & follow-up for timely utility connections during launch.
- Develop and deliver training to operations and maintenance technicians to ensure and seamless handover of new equipment.
- Manage project execution to ensure they are delivered to scope, on time and on budget.
- Procure equipment, track budget costs, and project schedules.
- Support sourcing activities including identification of potential suppliers and technical evaluations of quotations.
- Coordinate continuous improvement measures to ensure that project lessons learnt are captured and knowledge is transferred across the team and organization. Develop and add to existing standards to drive lessons learned.
- Participate in engineering activities with the product design team ensuring that flexible, cost effective, robust, and reusable processes and equipment are implemented.
- Develop initial manufacturing strategies for new projects by performing detailed feasibility, project timing and cost estimate studies.
- Install, commission and start-up equipment balancing speed and safety.
- Work on various processes such as welding, grinding, deburring, dispensing, automated vision based inspection.
- Provide technical support for the assessment of different manufacturing scenarios.
- Iterate engineering design to meet functional requirements and lead vendors through mechanical, electrical and software design reviews.
- Identify, investigate, test and validate new innovative technology and work methods for future implementation (e.g. virtual manufacturing environment, product feasibility simulation, throughput simulation).
- Lead manufacturing line design and launch – bid package development, vendor selection, equipment concept design, lead vendor design reviews, oversee fabrication, drive acceptance testing standards and visits, coordinate required utility installation, equipment installation, commissioning, and handover to operations.
- Experience designing, commissioning, ramping-up automated / robotic manufacturing equipment is required.
- Understanding of robot safety system concepts, high level programming logic will be an advantage.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering.
- Proven project management experience of $1M+ capex projects with cost benefit analysis development.
- Proficient in 3D CAD tools and Simulation tools (CATIA, Solidworks, Delmia, and Witness or similar such as TC, Process Designer, Process Simulate would be considered an advantage).
- Good overall people engagement skills.
- Understanding of machine guarding principles, regulatory requirements such as LOTO, hazardous materials / process handling among other typically found in high volume manufacturing environments.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Manufacturing Engineering experience across all phases of a product program (from concept planning through to execution).
