Position Overview:

The Materials Engineering Technology (MET) team is increasing its capabilities to support projects in the Energy business unit of Bechtel Global. There is a vacancy for an experienced professional Materials Engineer, qualified to degree level in the practice of Materials Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, or Metallurgy. A minimum of two years’ industrial experience is required for this position. Candidate should have at least two years of materials engineering experience.

The Materials Engineer will report to the Deputy Chief Engineer (Materials Engineering Technology) and duties will include the following:

  • Perform materials engineering activities on projects with minimal technical oversight.
  • Review of materials content in technical bids
  • Support to engineering disciplines in preparation/review of data sheets and requisition packages
  • Perform corrosion assessments
  • Review weld procedure specifications and P&IDs
  • Develop project technical specifications for materials and corrosion control
  • Develop material selection philosophy reports and material selection diagrams
  • Establish metallurgical requirements for equipment and piping in power systems, petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, and power plants

Specific capabilities required for the role include:

  • Knowledge of international materials standards and pressure vessel and piping fabrication codes
  • Working knowledge the principles and practices of Materials Engineering
  • Ability to coordinate work with other engineering disciplines.
  • A sound knowledge of material properties.


Candidate may be required to:

  • Coordinates technical issues with MET specialists as well as other disciplines on projects.
  • Devise practical approaches to solving materials engineering problems.
  • Plan and conduct independent work using sound judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Travel to support activities at construction sites, supplier’s works or in other engineering offices


The materials engineer will work as part of an international MET team and should also have a basic knowledge of other materials related technologies including:

  • Thermal insulation
  • Welding
  • Non-Metallic materials
  • Paint and coatings
  • Nondestructive examination


Applicants should identify any Leadership Skills and other relevant Experience. Previous experience with Bechtel is preferred.
