Summary

The New Unit Projects EHS Leader will provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the EHS function covering Heavy Duty Gas Turbines and Aero New Unit Projects, globally. This leader will drive the safety transformation in the New Unit Projects EHS organization, building a global organization to lead EHS from inquiry to remittance and develop capabilities for successful site execution, pre-construction/inquiry to order (ITO), governance and competency development. This leader reports functionally to Gas Power EHS Leader and operationally to Heavy Duty Gas Turbines New Units Business Line Leader.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Implement EHS management system including policy, plans, training, risk assessment, inspection, auditing, event management and analysis, utilizing GE EHS standards and procedures, including EHS processes owned by non-GE personnel such as partners and contractors
• Spend significant time at Project sites coaching on and role-modeling expected safety behaviors and develop strategy for Pole EHS Leader to spend the majority of their time at Project Sites
• Address non-compliance with EHS policy, process or protocol
• Lead, support and track EHS for all New Unit projects globally, by evaluating EHS conditions, assessing risks and developing corrective-action plans and budgets to address deficiencies in comparison to regulations and internal policy/protocol
• Design and implement project execution (OTR) structure Standard Work for Turnkey (TK) projects and Equipment Only (EO)/Engineered Equipment Package (EEP)/Technical Direction and Installation (TDI) Projects, ensuring high touch time in the field
• Build and maintain open line and transparent escalation mechanism to operational leadership
• Develop global mobilization model and deployment structure based on operational and safety risks to properly and proactively support business line needs and growth

• Develop and maintain focused approach for tasks that directly impact site execution performance, ensuring consistency that enforces our shared value and culture, such as governance process, standard work and continuous improvement, pre-construction/ITO processes, competency development and talent management

• Work in partnership with Heavy Duty Gas Turbines global leadership team and Pole ITR Leaders on EHS matters
• Manage partnerships and relationships with customers, partners, and contractors to ensure safe outcomes for New Unit sites
• Create consistency and drive operational rigor across the organization
• Drive execution of EHS action plans to meet KPIs
• Provide analysis of EHS data and timely communication to leadership on trends and countermeasures
• Build EHS talent pipeline to match increasing complexity and risk of the business
• Serve as People Leader to New Unit Projects EHS leadership team and their teams

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Engineering, Business or equivalent from an accredited university or college or eight years equivalent experience in EHS

• Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and other responsibilities, adjust to changing priorities and make decisions with speed and accuracy based on available information
• Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed environment, influence and motivate diverse teams to achieve a unified goal
• Demonstrated ability to organize, motivate and lead teams, drive change and interact cross-functionally
• Ability to travel extensively (up to 60%)
• Advanced EHS experience, including experience in functional leadership role
• English fluency
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization as well as organizations outside GE (customers and regulatory agencies)

• Master of Sciences in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical) Degree or equivalent education in EHS
• Working knowledge of Support Central, Yammer, and web-based communications tools
• Experience working in a global environment
• Knowledge of GE’s EHS programs and policies
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
