The Neuroepidemiology Unit, led by Dr. Maitreyi Mazumdar, addresses the mission of the Department of Neurology by researching the environment’s effect on children’s neurological development. Our study covers a wide range of conditions, including congenital disabilities, epilepsy, and COVID-19, and takes place in settings around the world, including Asia, Africa, and the United States.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver projects on time and within budget
- Keep team members appropriately informed
- Manage and direct regulatory/ reporting activities (e.g., IRB, updates/ reports to funding agencies, etc.)
- Conduct and support complex qualitative and quantitative analysis, draw appropriate conclusions, and effectively communicate results to the team.
- Identify and use appropriate project management tools and concepts (scope management, planning, budget management, risk/ issue management, and communications management)
- May be responsible or assist in the packaging and shipping of samples to other centers following the prescribed procedures.
- Manage communication and relationships with key project stakeholders (internal and external) and institution-wide. Compose, edit, and deliver written and verbal communications
- Facilitate group discussions
- Develop and execute a work plan—set priorities for tasks based on importance and urgency
- Manage a project or phase(s) of a complex research project from initiation/planning through the execution of the research grant or contract, concluding with project transition and close, ensuring a successful project
Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of PC- and Mac-based software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and manual and web-based applications for collecting/ reporting data
- Highly motivated, detailed oriented, and organized
- Ability to effectively manage multiple demands and projects and proposals simultaneously within assigned department/division/program and to persuade and negotiate with peer level department heads and with external agencies/facilities on issues and projects that impact assigned department as well as several other large departments/divisions
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Bachelor’s degree with five years of related work experience or Master’s degree (preferred) with three years of related work experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement and improvement activities
- For research efforts, the ability to lead and conduct basic secondary research (e.g., literature reviews) and advanced quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Advanced communication skills, able to balance competing demands
