New Markets R&D Analyst

Ivy Energy solves the split-incentive problem of installing solar on multi-unit buildings. We provide a data platform that enables tenants to receive cleaner energy and discounted energy bills and property owners to recoup their solar investment.
We are looking for a New Markets R&D Analyst to help analyze new market opportunities and evaluate policy, legal, product, and data requirements for enabling Ivy's software solution in new jurisdictions. This position is located within the Growth Department and the New Markets Policy sub-team. It will collaborate closely with team members in the Operations and Product Departments. We are remote-friendly but have a great office environment in downtown San Diego. We will also be opening a new office in NYC. Applicants from all geographies are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities

• Leverage AI tools to scrape websites/databases and perform research more efficiently
• Evaluate policy, legal, product, and data requirements for entering new markets
• Analyze tariffs and rate design in new markets and share insights with product team
• Analyze legal/policy elements related to Ivy’s business model and provide insights into Ivy’s go-to-market strategy
• Manage database/repository of insights between product department and policy team
• Take ownership of business development opportunities in new markets
• Research and track solar and building code mandates
• Drive customized solutions for clients in new jurisdictions; collaborate with utility representatives, solar developers, property owners, and other relevant stakeholders
• Develop insights around real estate ESG requirements and trends
• Perform research & energy impact modeling to support policy proceedings that could impact product growth
• Identify and prioritize new market opportunities based on client demand, policy landscape, electricity prices, and potential market size
• Collaborate with grant partners and drive grant deliverables
• Collaborate with Product team on discussions related to features/capabilities of the product and new market opportunities
• Research IRA (and other federal) incentives and state specific solar and storage rebates and incentives, especially those related to affordable/LMI housing
• Co-develop financial models alongside the Sales team to determine economics for clients in new markets

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated interest in distributed energy resources and the clean energy transition
• Consulting and/or experience in real estate or renewable energy is a plus
• Master’s degree in energy economics/policy or equivalent experience is a plus
• Excellent communicator who thrives in a startup setting
• Ability to generate meaningful insights even when tasks are ill-defined or vague
• Experience financial modeling is a plus
