Job Description

We are seeking a Power Markets Analyst or Senior Power Markets Analyst to enhance our coverage of the North American energy markets, based in our New York office. You will need to have proven experience and knowledge of US electric power markets. You will play a central role in our service and contribute to our broader energy and environmental markets analysis.

A successful candidate will play an active role in carrying out detailed analysis on US power markets, including tracking and forecasting policy developments, building and maintaining databases and models, and forecasting supply, demand and prices in those markets. The candidate will work closely with our North American power, gas, emissions and energy transition teams.

The candidate will ideally have 4-6 years of experience analysing and forecasting electricity, fuels, energy, environmental or commodity markets, or a relevant role in finance, markets or policy. They will also need strong quantitative and communication—written and verbal—skills, suitable to serving a demanding client base for a growing research firm.

Our clients value our views and insights, so you will be helping to shape forward-looking views and not just conducting historical analysis. You will be expected to consistently produce work at a high enough standard to deliver to our demanding client base. We pride ourselves on our product. We are meticulous about maintaining a high standard of accuracy across our services.

All team members are encouraged to build their professional reputation within the industry and are supported by some of the most well-regarded energy sector commentators. You will be able to work independently, as well as be capable of planning and prioritizing to achieve success. In exchange, we offer excellent remuneration, a high-performance culture, with challenging and exciting work, and ample opportunities for client engagement.

Duties

• Tracking and predicting developments in the energy market policy and regulations at a state, regional, ISO and federal level, and interpreting how they impact our existing views.

• Maintaining and expanding data sets, using an appropriate range of tools to manage large volumes of data, including those for energy supply, demand, and prices.

• Building or enhancing operating analytical models to provide detailed insights and forecasts.

• Helping to prepare many of our research publications including contributing to the analysis and presenting conclusions to clients.

• Continuously seek to increase your market knowledge and widen your network of contacts.

Requirements

• You will have solid experience analyzing US energy markets, with a particular focus on electric power.

• Excellent data analysis, modelling, and coding skills using systems like Python are required.

• Strong Excel skills are a plus.

• Strong communicator in written, slide (PowerPoint) and verbal mediums.

• An outstanding academic record with a relevant degree.

• The ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with others, including colleagues in different time zones, to deliver timely analysis will be critical.

• Attention to detail is a prerequisite for this role in both handling data and written English.
