Job Description

González Byass USA is a Chicago based importer for a portfolio of fine wine and spirit brands from around the world including Spain, Chile, Mexico, Italy, and Austria. We are the US subsidiary of González Byass, headquartered in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. From its foundation in 1835, the González family has been dedicated to making fine Sherries and brandies in Jerez.


González Byass USA is seeking a dynamic Chain Manager - National Accounts Off Sale, responsible for enhancing the development and execution of the chain division plan to deliver a profitable execution by increasing depletions and maintaining authorizations for one or more assigned states.


Main Functions:


  • Participates in Distributor Merchandising Team meetings – presents local programs, authorizations, create “monthly tool kit”, educating and conducting tastings on authorized brands.
  • Support the National Sales Director with set-up and execution of authorized products and regular Distributor Management meetings and Regional Chain Accounts (Key Coverage, CA, CO, AZ, NV, NM, FL (additional East Region States TBD). Account Coverage in CA will include a majority of regional buyer calls.
  • Supports National Sales Director with new product introductions to for on target shipments and depletions. Actively coordinates with Brand Management and/or Trade Marketing to optimize programs for success in market launch plans.
  • Follows up and develops contingency plans to address market gaps and Distributor performance.
  • Develops and implements plans and activities to ensure assigned Distributor Management is informed and aligned to influence programs.
  • Monitors the market and competition and assesses opportunities, keeping management informed appropriately.
  • Responsible for managing within an assigned budget.
  • Contributes to the input to the annual budget for chain activities and promotions (within this role’s respective universe of accounts).
  • Assist with new item submissions and demonstrate account and category knowledge in additional to “owned” chain account responsibility (submissions, meetings, follow up)
  • Monitors Distributor inventory levels to meet objectives and minimize out of stocks. Ensure all chain authorizations are covered.
  • Request work withs as well as being independent in the field to create relationships with store wine and liquor managers and wine stewards.
  • Collaborate and drive account planning, distribution, programming with distributor to drive performance within both merchandising divisions. Full Book and DSD.
  • Effectively leverages Distributor teams to support key account activities as needed E.g. Marketing Programs, Scans for Spirits, submitting demo and POS requests.
  • Compile and provide Monthly Market report to National Sales Director to show progress to date of all key objectives by chain.
  • Fosters relationship with the Distributor merchandising Portfolio Managers (CA as a priority) with the ability to motivate and gain share of mind.


Approximately 50% of the time is expected to be spent on Distributor Management activities.


  • Works with National Chain Director and Brand Teams to analyze, create insights, and drive solutions to increase product visibility and sales through the register (Field Based suggestions)
  • Works with Internal Area Managers for authorization conversions at state level, e.g. TWM
  • Field time approximately 12 days a month – working with distributor chain merchandising teams, price survey, competitive insights, execution survey, work withs, account calls, SoCal Pavilions Concierge Tastings a priority to be present in the market and conduct tastings.


Requirements & Experience:

  • Knowledge of selling wine and spirits in the chain channel, data IRI competency, experience with chain submissions and formats (detail oriented individual).
  • Degree Required.
  • Strong and effective communication skills. A team player, goal driven, positive, proactive, with a collaboration to Win and a sense of urgency to increase profitability of sales. Spanish speaking plus and openness to work travel requirements.
  • Must possess knowledge of the Chain Retail channel, the 3-tier system and strong distributor relationship acumen.
  • 8 years or more of management experience in the beverage industry, with a record of achievement of volume and market contribution.


Type of work: Full time, remote.

(No relocation package available)

Travel Required: Yes, minimum 30% a month.
