So far, the company has more than 100 games in operation. Its recent games include Naraka: Bladepoint, Knives Out, Onmyoji, Identity V, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, etc.
Along with its many creative partnerships, NetEase is expanding its portfolio of studios, including Jackalope Games, Jar of Sparks, and Quantic Dream.
Summary:
We are seeking a Head of Technology for a new unannounced studio within NetEase Games that is led by an industry luminary. You will be joining a world-class studio, developing a new AAA IP focused on an immersive, online-player experience. The Head of Technology will be responsible for leading the technology strategy and direction of the newly formed studio. This includes overseeing the development of new game titles and successive updates, managing and scaling the technical team, and ensuring the company's technology stays current and competitive. The role is a studio-specific position, and you will be among the first several new members as such, the position is expected to be very hands-on in all facets, including the shaping of studio culture and long-term strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the development of a new IP and game title, including overseeing the work of game designers, programmers, and other technical staff related to technical endeavors.
- Serve as a thought partner to the founder and participate in early decisions related to the creative and design elements of the game, paying particular attention to technical features and attributes that will serve the player base.
- Prioritizing creating a diverse and inclusive engineering department at all stages of the process.
- Setting the technology vision and strategy for the studio.
- Keeping up to date with the latest technology trends and developments in the video game industry and incorporating them into the studio’s games and processes
- Partnering with the Studio Head and Head of Operations to manage the budget and resources for the technology department.
- Collaborating with other departments, such as marketing and finance, to ensure that technology is aligned with overall business goals.
- Participating in industry events and networking to stay connected with the broader video game community.
- Recruiting, training, and mentoring technical staff
- Driving efficiencies through automation and tools refinement to equip developers with best-in-class technology, infrastructure, and support
- Ensure the company's technology infrastructure is stable, secure, and scalable. This includes overseeing the development and maintenance of the company's IT systems and networks, including hardware, software, and data storage.
Requirements:
- Curious, collaborative, and independent problem solver
- The Head of Technology must have a deep understanding of the video game industry, proven technical skills, and leadership experience
- The head of technology should also understand modern development practices, such as Agile/Scrum, etc.
- Experience building and shipping games-as-a-service across multiple platforms.
- 10+ years leading engineering and implementation for AAA online action games, including experience across platforms and genres
- Understanding of all technical-related aspects of planning, producing, launching, and supporting online games and communities
- Demonstrated experience with game engines such as Unreal.
- Broad understanding of effective engineering processes
- Experienced technical team manager with a strong focus on mentoring and development
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is required, along with several years of experience in a technical management role leading engineering teams at scale in the games space.

- Expert networker, well-connected in the game development industry, with extensive experience with recruiting and speaking to the press and at public events
- Strong leader: possess the work ethic and emotional intelligence to optimize team performance and drive results
