Job Description
The Director of Vendor Management is responsible for managing all vendor relationships and contracts for R1 RCM – Physician Solutions. This individual will support all supplier contract activities, lead complex contract negotiations, and collaborate with lines of business and operations teams to ensure that all terms and pricing agreements made in the negotiation process are built into the contract and conform to R1 standards.


Principal Responsibilities


Work closely with segment and operational leaders to ensure vendor contracts are structured with the appropriate provisions and mechanisms to ensure the suppliers performance is meeting R1 business objectives within the agreed costs and schedules. Expected to incorporate improved supplier service, savings, and to minimize contractual risks.


  • Develop negotiation strategy and lead negotiation of complex supplier contracts.
  • Continually analyze and evaluate each program or vendor for improvement opportunities and work with appropriate parties to implement them.
  • Work with Management on non-standard contract terms and conditions to ensure contract provisions meet bank objectives.
  • Provide a liaison/coordination role between suppliers, legal staff and segment/operational leadership as needed, in the areas of contract negotiation.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of contract management guidelines related to supplier contracts and customize legal contract language, in collaboration with legal team, within those guidelines to address specific business issues.
  • Provide supplier contract review services and coordination of contract dispositions.
  • Establish and maintain Vendor Management Policy and Procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the Executive team, segment and operational leaders, and suppliers to optimize negotiations.
  • Provide authoritative guidance to internal business teams on R1 goals and objectives relating to contract activity.


Education / Experience


  • Experience in the Revenue Cycle Management market a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field or equivalent education and related training.
  • Five years of experience in contract management or closely related field.


Skills / Knowledge / Abilities


  • Good presentation and communication skills with the ability to explain contractual provisions in easy-to-understand business terms.
  • Use of independent judgment and creativity applied to resolution of contract issues.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to create fact-based recommendations to positively influence diverse teams to achieve desired contractual results.
  • Excellent relationship management skills to work successfully across R1 to quickly gain the trust and confidence of R1 Leadership
  • Strong negotiating, interpersonal and analytical skills, professional attitude, and ability to interact with senior management personnel.
  • Legal aptitude and understanding of relationships between and among contracts provisions.
