Department Profile


The Fixed Income Division (FID) is comprised of Interest Rate and Currency Products, Credit Products, Securitized Products, and Municipal Securities. Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities, and structure as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets.


Position Description


The leadership team across Municipal Securities is looking for a strategic and highly motivated professional to join the team as the COO for Municipals to support strategic decision-making and help drive growth initiatives across the group. We are currently seeking interested VP and ED level candidates to join the team based in New York. The successful person will work closely with the business head in Municipal Securities along with members of the Credit Complex COO team.


Morgan Stanley’s Municipal Securities group is comprised of Public Finance underwriting and syndicate, Sales and Trading, and Capital Solutions structuring, lending and client financing. This is a complex and growing portfolio of businesses within Morgan Stanley that serve a wide range of clients.


The role requires background knowledge in Municipal products, and a keen interest in the strategy and operations of the Fixed Income business.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Understand and review capital and returns for the businesses
  • Support the Business heads in Municipal Securities driving business planning, business strategy and key priorities
  • Analyze and present performance metrics and key initiatives
  • Identify and mitigate non market risk factors, work with the 2nd line and internal audit to design process and controls for the business
  • Create meaningful analysis to aid management’s strategic decisions
  • Assist in the management of IT priorities and projects


Qualifications


Skills Required:


  • Quantitative Skills
  • Strong analytical and modelling skills
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, and thrive in a dynamic and often ambiguous work environment
  • Ability to take ownership and drive strategic initiatives
  • Strong communication skills: ability to summarize complex business problems and detailed analysis with clarity and brevity in written and oral form
  • Experience with Market Risk, Credit Risk and Non Market Risks
  • Background in Municipal products
  • Pro-active and results oriented mind-set


Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $225,000 and $250,000 per year for Vice President and between $250,000 and $300,00 per year for Executive Director level, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
