What To Expect
The Field Quality Engineering team’s mission is to improve customer experience of Tesla products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with large cross-section of other engineering teams.
Engineers on the team are responsible for one or more vehicle systems for Model S/3/X/Y; Semi or CyberTruck (specific to EVs and High Voltage or traditional Automotive components). This is a very hands-on individual contributor role with duties focused on failure analysis and root causes activities.
To be effective, the Field Quality Engineer will need to be familiar electromechanical components and with the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. They will work with other Engineering teams to quickly mitigate and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, durability of the products.
What You’ll Do

• Take part in ongoing optimization of the products and processes (performance, cost, technology)
• Share Lessons Learned from previous field issues; Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated. (DFMEAs)
• Monitor products field performance, identify trending issues. Prioritize based on Severity, occurrence, and/or cost of each failure modes
• Apply knowledge of electrical engineering and PCBA manufacturing to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production /design / supplier / Firmware.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive actions.
• Detailed failure analysis, identifying root-cause of problems – Perform board-level debugging to isolate faults for physical FA
• Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering peers and leadership on improvement priorities and urgency.

What You’ll Bring

• For entry level candidates, Co-ops, or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE; Solar vehicle.
• Programming Languages & Tools: Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus
• Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands-on role such as Failure Analysis / Quality / Service in consumer electronics or automotive.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
• Exceptional problem solving and Failure Analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
• The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside.
• Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering or equivalent experience required. Mechanical; Electrical, Mechatronic; Power Electronics, Electronic or equivalent relevant experience.

Expected Compensation
$72,000 - $258,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
