Position Summary:
Antioch College seeks a full-time communications coordinator to manage the college’s social media accounts, internal communications, and design work according to the institution's needs. The communications coordinator works collaboratively with various departments and teams to create content and implement effective communication strategies that engage and inform the college community.The Antioch Farm is a small, diversified, ecological farm located on the Antioch College Campus. The Farm is approximately 9 acres and includes a solar array, food forests, compost area, annual growing area and hoop house. Most farm labor is concentrated in the annual garden area, which produces the bulk of the food from the Farm that is harvested for the Kitchens on campus. Antioch Farm staff are responsible for maintaining and operating this working farm as a learning resource, as well as a visually vibrant commitment to sustainability for the College. The Farm Assistant reports to and assists the Farm Manager to accomplish the successful operations of the Antioch Farm. This position is donor-funded for the 2023 calendar year; ongoing employment is contingent upon donor funds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Report any problems promptly to the farm manager.
- Adhere to USDA and FDA food handling regulations to ensure a food-safe product.
- Help create and execute weekly work tasks.
- Participate in sustainability visioning and goal setting.
- Operating heavy equipment.
- Contribute to the daily operations of the farm including but not limited to planting, composting, seeding, mulching, weeding, pest management, and harvest.
- Provide animal wellness care, as needed.
- Provide support and assistance to faculty regarding the integration of sustainability initiatives into the college curriculum and community life.
- Supply monitoring & replenishing.
- Other duties as assigned by the Farm Manager that support the farm.
- Assist in coordination of events, such as volunteer work projects, etc.
- Provide care for all farm animals and maintain sanitary living quarters for animals.
- Maintain animal areas & equipment.
- Performs basic repairs and upkeep to infrastructure, such as hoop house, chicken coops, fences, and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School/GED required.
- Knowledge about plants and animals, as well as the relevant laws governing their management.
- One to two years’ experience in farm operations.
- Associates in Agriculture preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Some knowledge of the care of livestock and poultry.
- Some knowledge of practical farm operations, such as plowing, planting, irrigation, fertilizing, cultivating, and harvesting of crops.
- Some knowledge of the use and service requirements of plows, cultivators, machines, combines, tractors, planters, sprayers, and other farm equipment and implements.
- Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and well with others.
- Ability to care for all farm animals and maintain sanitary living quarters for animals.
- Willingness to engage with the Antioch College community.
- Skill in the use and care of equipment used in farming.
- Must be available evenings and weekends
- Ability to withstand prolonged exposure to variable weather conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to safely lift feed and water buckets – up to 40 pounds
Ability to safely bend, lift, carry, reach, and squat while carrying out responsibilities
Ability to move around safely on uneven, wet, or slippery ground
Ability to perform the responsibilities of the position during all weather
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Position is mainly out of doors on farm land with temperature variations from below zero with wind chill to 90+ degrees Fahrenheit with humidity.
