Job Description
Position Summary


MemorialCare is seeking an Executive Vice President to serve as Chief Executive Officer of the MemorialCare Medical Foundation (MCMF). The Chief Executive of MCMF leads MemorialCare's physician and ambulatory care division, which consists of its medical group and Independent Physician Association (IPA), medical offices and clinics, urgent care centers, Accountable Care Organizations (ACO's), population health activities, managed care, MSO and other support functions, and joint venture relationships for the provision of ambulatory patient services such as imaging, dialysis, surgical centers, and physical therapy. It is an extraordinary opportunity for a talented, energetic, strategic and operationally focused healthcare executive who will provide vision, direction and leadership in furtherance of MemorialCare's mission to care for the health and well-being of the communities that it serves.


MemorialCare is a nonprofit integrated health system that includes leading hospitals - Long Beach Medical Center, Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach, Orange Coast Medical Center, and Saddleback Medical Center; award-winning medical groups - MemorialCare Medical Group and Greater Newport Physicians; Select Health Plan; and convenient outpatient health centers, urgent care centers, imaging centers, breast centers, surgical centers, physical therapy centers and dialysis centers throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties. MCMF consists of over 200 sites of care and more than 2,000 physicians, whose specialties include internal medicine, family medicine, obstetrics-gynecology, pediatrics, oncology, cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, surgery, and urgent care. MCMF's physicians, together with more than 1,300 other MCMF clinical professionals, leaders and staff members, share the Health System's commitment to increasing access to patient-centric, affordable and high-quality healthcare, and their contributions are integral to MemorialCare being recognized as a market leader and innovator in value-based and other care models.


The successful candidate will join a collaborative leadership team focused on operational excellence, quality and achieving MCMF's and the Health System's growth strategies. The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader and team player with a proven track record of aligning physician and ambulatory care strategies and leading complex organizations in support of a broader integrated enterprise. They will be both an operational and strategic leader, willing to roll up their sleeves and work alongside physicians, clinical staff and other organization leaders and employees to ensure that MemorialCare continues to meet the healthcare needs of our communities.


Among other responsibilities, principal roles for the Chief Executive Officer of MCMF include the following:


  • Oversees the development, implementation and execution of strategic plans for the growth of the Medical Foundation in furtherance of the Health System's mission to care for the health and well-being of the communities that it serves;
  • Works collaboratively with the MemorialCare Health System hospitals and participates in the systemwide executive leadership group responsible for the Health System's strategy, planning and operations;
  • Functions as Chief Executive Officer of each of the MemorialCare Medical Group and Greater Newport Physicians IPA, together representing a network of over 2,000 physicians in Orange County and South Los Angeles County;
  • Represents the Medical Foundation and actively participates in national, state and local physician organizations, such as America's Physician Groups, the California Medical Association and the American Medical Management Association; and
  • Acts as a liaison to affiliated and independent physicians and other care providers, businesses, governmental officials and community members to advance the Health System's mission and initiatives;
  • Sets and maintains a culture within the physician and ambulatory division that promotes patient-centricity, access to high quality and affordable care, diversity, equity and inclusion, and accountability.MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Works closely with the Health System's marketing and community relations departments to shape the ambulatory services marketing strategy and to build and maintain relationships with local and national employers, business groups and local government agencies;
  • Represents the Medical Foundation in the governance and management oversight of its ambulatory care joint ventures and other investments, including its medical malpractice captive and real estate ventures;
  • Oversees and directs the Health System's population health initiatives, including ACO's, HMO's and direct-to-employer relationships;
  • Along with the Health System's President and Chief Executive Officer and the VP, Government Relations, advocates for policy, legislative and regulatory reforms to promote high-quality, affordable and accessible healthcare while communicating the perspectives of physicians and ambulatory ventures;
  • Oversees and manages the Medical Foundation's operations, finances and real estate to optimize its resources and advance the provision of healthcare services within those communities;


Education/Licensure


  • Licensed MD or DO strongly preferred
  • MBA, MHA, MPH or comparable graduate degree from an accredited university or college


Experience


  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and perform effectively amid changing priorities
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate an effective team and staff at all levels
  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience within a progressive healthcare organization, with an emphasis on management of physician operations (medical groups, independent physician associations, etc.) and ambulatory care services divisions
  • E xperience in clinical and operational aspects of managed care, population health, organizational development and systems integration
  • Demonstrated business acumen, analytical skills and effective problem-solving; sound judgment


In-Depth Knowledge Of The Following Areas


  • Operation of ambulatory care service networks
  • Population health, managed care and capitation reimbursement concepts, including capitation and risk pool management, commercial and government reimbursement and related laws and regulations
  • Medical group and independent physician association structures, strategies and operations


Personal Skills


  • Ability to quickly and accurately synthesize large amounts of information, reach solid conclusions, communicate logical plans of action, and build consensus
