Job Description

The Kids & Art Foundation is a Bay Area based nonprofit organization whose mission is to use the power of the arts and creativity to mitigate stress, anxiety, and trauma induced from the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer and other critical medical conditions. Kids & Art grew out of first-hand experience. In 2011, our founder lost her son, Amaey, to pediatric cancer after he had battled the disease for six of his nine years. We remain forever dedicated to exploring creative ways to help uplift the spirits of families affected by pediatric cancer and all critical medical conditions. Job Title: CEO

Reports to: Board of Directors


The CEO is responsible for overseeing and implementing the organization's strategic plan, programs, and administration. Additionally, they play a vital role in fundraising, community outreach, and raising the organization’s visibility. This position is hybrid.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Keep the Board of Directors fully informed about the organization's condition and significant factors influencing it.
  • Act as the official spokesperson for the organization.
  • Jointly conduct official correspondence with the Board Chair and Board of Directors, as well as execute legal, financial, and operational documents with designated officers.
  • Stay updated on significant developments and trends in the field.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with funders and community leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a vision and strategic plan.


Operational Planning and Management

  • Create and periodically evaluate an operational plan (aka Executive Roadmap) aligned with the organization's strategic direction.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization.


Program Planning and Management

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization's programs and direction.
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence.
  • Ensure that the programs offered by the organization contribute to its mission and reflect the priorities of the Board.


Human Resources Planning and Management

  • Mentor staff and volunteers, providing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse, high-quality staff and volunteers.
  • Monitor staff performance regularly and conduct biannual performance reviews.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire staff who possess the technical and personal abilities to advance the organization's mission.
  • Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery.


Financial Planning and Management

  • Collaborate with staff, Treasurer, and Board of Directors to develop an annual budget.
  • Ensure compliance with sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
  • Ensure adequate funds are available for the organization's operation, together with the Board of Directors.
  • Manage the organization's funds and fund development in accordance with the approved budget. Monitor monthly cash flow.
  • Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on revenue, expenditures, and financial position.


Community Relations and Advocacy

  • Represent the organization at community activities to enhance its profile.
  • Establish productive working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, donors, grantors, funders, government officials, and other organizations to achieve organizational goals.
  • Communicate and inform stakeholders about the organization's work.


Risk Management

  • Recognize and resolve any conflicts of interest among staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate and adequate insurance coverage for the Board of Directors and the organization.
  • Identify and evaluate risks to the organization's people (clients, staff, management, volunteers), property, finance, goodwill, and brand identity. Implement measures to control risks.

Qualifications:

Education

  • University degree in a related field. Master’s preferred or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • Executive experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in two of the fields of art, health, and children.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with current community opportunities and challenges relevant to the organization's mission.
  • Proficiency in general technology, Google Suite, Quickbooks, and CRM databases.
  • Keeps current on latest technological trends and tools.
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to nonprofit organizations.
  • Proficiency in human resources management, financial management, and project management.

COMPENSATION

The CEO position is full time, with flexible hours and a high degree of autonomy. The annual salary is $100K - $120K based on prior experience with the possibility of bonus pay for exceptional performance. Kids & Art offers benefits and 401k.
