Job Description

The Executive Director is an experienced people leader with a strong background in social services and nonprofits and a commitment to positive change in the lives of children and families.


Position Overview

The Executive Director is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to ensure the organization's success and positive impact on the community. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will collaborate closely with stakeholders, community partners, and staff to foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and compassion. This role requires a deep understanding of social services, trauma-informed care, effective management skills, financial acumen, and a commitment to improving the lives of children, youth, and families.


This role will be accountable for, but not limited to the following responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Policy Development:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to provide regular updates, seek guidance, and ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Lead long-range organizational planning, including program expansion, infrastructure development, and financial sustainability.
  • Develop and implement strategic goals, objectives, and policies in alignment with the organization's mission and vision.


Program Management and Financial Performance:

  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making data-informed decisions to drive continuous improvement and maximize impact.
  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance revenue generation, diversify funding sources, and achieve financial targets to sustain and grow the organization's programs and services.
  • Oversee and ensure the effective management of all client programs, maintaining high standards of service delivery and program outcomes.


Staff Leadership and Development:

  • Provide effective leadership and supervision to staff, promoting collaboration, accountability, and a client-centered approach.
  • Cultivate a supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage a competent and motivated team of employees, fostering a positive work culture.


Public Relations and Community Engagement:

  • Actively engage with the community, social service networks, and government agencies to foster partnerships, collaborations, and resource-sharing opportunities.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive public relations and marketing strategies to enhance the organization's visibility and community awareness.
  • Serve as the primary representative and advocate for the organization, building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and funders.


Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and licensing requirements governing the organization's operations and programs.
  • Monitor and address potential risks and liabilities, taking proactive measures to mitigate and manage risks effectively.
  • Develop and implement risk management protocols, safeguarding the organization's assets, reputation, and legal compliance.


Board Communication and Support:

  • Collaborate with Board committees, providing guidance, support, and necessary information to facilitate decision-making and governance processes.
  • Implement Board-approved policies and directives, ensuring organizational alignment and adherence.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates, reports, and recommendations.


Grant Applications and Reporting:

  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities aligned with the organization's strategic priorities, preparing compelling proposals and grant applications.
  • Manage grant execution, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and timely submission of progress reports to funders.


Qualifications:

  • Strong public relations skills, with the ability to effectively represent the organization to stakeholders and the community.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study
  • Familiarity with the local community and social services networks on Maui.
  • Ability to set priorities, plan effectively, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Demonstrated administrative, organizational, management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Board members, staff, volunteers, and diverse community stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creativity and strong innovative skills to drive program development and community engagement.
  • Strong managerial and motivational skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Ability to identify, utilize, and manage the talents of others to further the organization's goals and objectives.
  • 10+ years of senior management or administrative experience, preferably in social services.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the administration of social services programs focused on children, youth, and families.
