Job Description

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the employee relations function for assigned multi-facility locations. Administration includes consultation on employee relations issues, the processing of disability related matters when team members seek an accommodation under the ADA and facilitation of initiatives to foster a positive employee relations environment that aligns with the mission and values of the hospital. This individual is responsible to log all interactions in the case management system, following all procedures while maintaining employees' confidentiality.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Documents all employee relations matters as appropriate for the situation and in accordance with legal compliance and organizational policies and procedures within the case management system.
  • Stays current on employment law. Proactively researches information to ensure compliance, provide appropriate consultation, and avoid/eliminate exposure to the organization.
  • Participates in the investigation and resolution of ongoing employee relations problems, such as working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee appeals and grievances.
  • Orients new facility leaders to the processes and philosophy of the Employee Relations-ADA accommodation process. The process includes, but is not limited to, obtaining the appropriate forms to be signed, providing education about the companies role, the manager’s role, and the team member’s role in obtaining assistance, and facilitating discussions as needed to reach a decision.
  • Works collaboratively with employees and departmental leadership in carrying out their responsibilities on employee relations matters.
  • Obtain and review medical information to determine whether to provide a reasonable accommodation to team member.
  • Helps to maintain a positive employee relations climate by proactively providing guidance to managers and responding to employee inquiries.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Leave of Absence Vendor, clinical experts and legal to evaluate RTW status for team members.
  • Escalate complex Employee Relations matters to Employee Relations Leadership as needed.
  • Stays current on state insurance privacy laws and HIPPA to appropriately safeguard confidential and medical information.
  • Assist with the interaction between the team member, facility leaders and/or physician.
  • Assists in communication of policies and procedures.
  • Determine eligibility and availability of leave time for each team member requesting leave and generate appropriate communications to comply with the Leave Policy and ADA regulations.
