Job Description


Robotics & Digital Solutions, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies is recruiting for a Director, Ottava Brand Strategy. This role will be based out of Santa Clara, CA. Cincinnati, OH is an alternative location that may be considered on a case-by-case basis if approved by the Company.


Robotics and Digital Solutions, is part of Johnson & Johnson Med Tech.At Johnson & Johnson Robotics and Digital Solutions, we’re changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers’ abilities and improve patients’ diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. Johnson & Johnson Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. Join our collaborative, rapidly growing teams in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City and Santa Clara), Cincinnati, and Seattle. You’ll collaborate on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals’ skills and improves patient outcomes.


The Director, Ottava Brand Strategy, will be part of the Global Strategic Marketing team for our Ottava Surgical Robotics Portfolio. Reporting to the WW President, Ottava & Advanced Visualization, you will partner across Ottava strategic marketing, Ethicon and J&J communications to develop a differentiated narrative demonstrating category leadership in the next era of robotic surgery.

The Primary Objectives Of This Role Include


  • Support J&J MedTech Communication team with content development and access to the latest content / assets for creation and execution of internal and external initiatives.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required. MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
  • Partner with Front end and Upstream / New Product Development Global Marketing and Development team leads to support naming, expression and communication messaging for Surgical robotics platforms and product-based messaging, business objectives.
  • Support Global Commercial and Regional Marketing teams in creation of communication initiatives and assets to support market enablement initiatives.
  • Lead and support strategic brand architecture and expression development and manage implementation of brand architecture and brand expression across all touchpoints of Surgical Robotics, in close collaboration with key partners.
  • Builds a high-performing team with a culture of inclusion and a diverse pipeline of talent for the future.
  • Lead the development and execution of OTTAVA brand and communication strategies and plans in support of brand and surgical platform campaigns, both internally and externally in close collaboration with Surgical Robotics Strategic Marketing and J&J MedTech Communication leads.
  • Lead day-to-day activities and management of external agency partners ensuring strong partnership and deliver on creative mandatories (video, images, web pages, etc), quality of deliverables, project timelines, and budget commitments are met.
  • Determine KPIs to measure brand health in the market.
  • Collaborate across functions and organizations to create clarity around brand story, application, and messaging to build alignment and consistency in application and communication of strategy and tactics.
  • Collaborate with key partners across J&J MedTech to develop a differentiated narrative demonstrating category leadership in robotics.
  • Connect and translate core strategic marketing deliverables of segmentation, targeting and positioning into a multi-channel, communication strategy, inclusive of creative and idea approaches/selection, and initiatives
  • Responsible to stay abreast of latest market trends and research results and incorporation of key learnings into messaging and communication initiatives


Required Skills And Experience


  • Domestic and international travel is required up to 35% of the time
  • 8+ years of related business experience, including at least 5+ years of experience in brand management.
  • Ability to facilitate and communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of initiating, building, and managing brand strategy and/or communication plans.
  • Experience executing brand positioning initiatives, messaging platforms / campaign ideas and communication tactics across various mediums and channels.
  • Ability to collaborate and lead across boundaries (e.g. with other J&J companies and Robotics & Digital Solutions).
  • Ability to gather data, analysis quickly and ability to understand and communicate complex concepts.
  • Proven track record of managing creative agency relationships.
  • Demonstrated strong written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven track record of budget resources being used appropriately and according to plan.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to successfully work across functional and geographic boundaries, preferably across multiple countries/market types/access models.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and drive effective cross-functional efforts with the ability to influence senior management decisions and lead key discussions.


Preferred Skills And Experience


  • Prior experiences in Consumer Goods or Big Tech (e.g. Apple, Google) leading brand creation and management
  • Healthcare and B2B background.
  • Medical device industry knowledge and background.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures.
  • Experience leading the global launch of a product or solution.

  • The anticipated base pay for this position is $157,200 to $271,170
