Summary:
The Director Brand Innovation will lead the product lifecycle management for assigned brands/segments/need-states. You will collaborate cross functionally to effectively manage a range of responsibilities including product positioning, innovation pipeline, and assortment choice to optimize revenue, margin and working capital deployment. You will have a critical role in helping to develop and execute a multi-year innovation strategy and product innovation pipeline that aligns to the brand strategy and company goals.
Your primary activities will include but are not limited to:
- Be the steward of Jarrow innovation across the cross functional team navigating product and packaging innovations through entire Gate process from ideation to launch, including opportunity identification, concept development, product and packaging creation, feasibility validation, financial viability, commercial validation and launch planning
- Build strong, collaborative partnerships with Sales, Marketing, Consumer Insights, R&D and Operations for seamless connection from ideation to launch.
- Be the expert on assigned brand/need states/categories, their performance, the competition, and the trends impacting them to stay ahead of the curve on our pipeline development.
- Work with Commercial Leadership on Innovation pipeline prioritization.
- Be the lead for Jarrow in the PMR process working cross functionally to align 1) Priorities 2) Sufficiency Targets 3) Resource requirements 4) Gate adherence 5) Launch, Audit, and Key Milestone tracking.
- Provide Marketing and Sales with insights on product key differentiators and messages to maximize distribution and sales.
- Build and manage 3-5 year innovation pipeline in partnership with consumer insights and brand team that delivers against: 1) Brand Strategic Objectives 2) Annual Pipeline Sufficiency requirements 3) Financial margin requirements 4) Meets sales window timing across key channels.
· Monitor product performance including sales data, consumer and customer feedback, COGS, margin, and sales, and recommend plans to optimize.
· Identify gaps in the portfolio and recommend plans to fill these gaps.
· Identify opportunities to improve the performance of focus SKU’s (e.g., improved claims, better packaging, etc.).
· Develop a deep understanding of the innovation gate and product development processes and optimize where there is opportunity.
· Analyze and interpret data & research results to communicate findings and recommendations to cross-functional team members and executive leadership.
You’ll need the following (minimum qualifications):
- Bachelor’s Degree, MBA preferred.
- VMS experience not required but preferred.
- Strong analytical and project management skills, data-driven decision making.
- Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in CPG brand management, product management, or innovation roles.
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills, ability to navigate through ambiguity and provide clear direction.
· Demonstrated consumer-first mindset, while also being able to understand other stakeholders’ perspectives.
- Agile and an ability to both think and execute at a high level.
- Ability to define key project milestones, where initial pathways can be unclear or undefined, and identify and solve for potential issues early.
· Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, experience with Nielsen/IRI/Spins/Stackline a plus.
· Excellent written and verbal communication.
A reasonable estimate of the current base hourly/salary range for this position is $140,000 to $180,000. Actual compensation offered may vary depending on skill level, experience, and/or education.
