Department Purpose
Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owned/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. Job Summary
Under supervision of Culinary Support Center Supervisor, responsible for the timely distribution of product to Dining Services locations across the campus of UC Davis. Responsible for tracking and executing delivery of food products to units campus-wide. In all facets of delivery packing, loading, unloading, distributing – observe and maintain continued food safety standards. Operate company vehicles adhering to all safety requirements as outlined by the University. Support Culinary Support Center sanitation and utility needs by performing safety and sanitation tasks in a timely manner and to meet all University standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Stand for extended periods of time; stoop, bend, kneel, etc. to retrieve items from ovens, counters, cupboards or other areas within the dining commons.
- Position requires lifting up to 50 pounds on a continuing basis.
- Use of a ladder when retrieving items from high shelves.
- Work for extended periods of time in an environment of high humidity and heat.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- His position is subject to completion of a Pre-Placement Medical Exam provided by Employee Health Services, at no charge to the applicant.
- Position is a mandatory reporter for known or suspected child abuse and requires that a statement acknowledging the requirement to report child abuse be signed.
- THIS IS A PARTIAL-YEAR CAREER POSITION: work an average 70% annually. This position is subject to furlough and curtailment periods where the employee is not at work and without pay; furlough would not exceed three (3) months; furlough anticipated dates between June and September, determined upon business needs. Curtailments occur when business operations are suspended, for example during winter break.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment [PPE] such as rubber gloves and goggles.
- The Smoke and Tobacco Free Environment policy is intended to provide a healthier, safer, and more productive work and learning environment for the entire UC community. - Successful completion of certified, company-approved program in Sanitation/Food Borne Illness prevention within 90 days from date of hire.
- Work flexible/variable schedule including occasional overtime, evenings, weekends and holidays, usually on short notice to meet operational needs. This position may have split days off.
- Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.). A copy of DMV record will be required as final condition of employment.
- Schedule is subject to change with only 12-24 hours notification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Minimum License/Certification:
- Valid CA driver’s license.
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Experience working under strict deadlines and production/delivery timelines.
- Experience using all necessary equipment associated with job functions (hand truck, motor vehicles up to 1-ton, high-cube, etc.).
- Experience working as a delivery driver.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Skill to follow safe driving practices, observe all campus and state driving codes/regulations and exhibit extreme caution in busy pedestrian/traffic/bicycle areas; follow all safety procedures.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal, oral, and written skills to communicate effectively with a diverse population of staff, guests, and coworkers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Skill to remain flexible and responsive to the changes of the work environment and tasks.
- Knowledge and skill to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment [PPE].
- Knowledge and skill to follow proper procedures for lifting, handling broken glass and working around industrial kitchen equipment.
- Skill to learn and follow Accident Prevention and Chemical Hazard guidelines required by the University.
