The Role

At Bango, the Engineering Delivery Manager (EDM) leads one or more engineering teams in the delivery, quality and technical management of all engineering activities undertaken by that team. As an EDM, you will be responsible for building the team and ensuring strong alignment with our core engineering principles and practices.

You will align with other EDMs to ensure a world-class engineering function that delivers at the highest levels against clearly defined goals and deliverables. You will lead across complex technology initiatives, and ensure successful, consistent, and timely high-quality execution of work, with effective communication and alignment of all stakeholders. You will ensure that requirements are understood by your team(s) and broken down effectively, that tasks are effectively prioritized, and ensure technology is applied in the most, effective, efficient, and long-term supportable way to meet business requirements.

You will work cross-functionally, aligning with other EDMs, technical leads, and other relevant stakeholders to communicate plans, risks, and dependencies. With the responsibility for engineering deliverables, you understand that establishing, and driving efficient collaboration, processes, and communication is essential to align focus and energy, unblock issues, ensure high quality, de-risk delivery, and enable the engineering teams to move quickly.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure that risks against the engineering delivery plans are identified, tracked, and communicated on a regular basis. Where possible, implement mitigation strategies.
• Use technical judgment to participate in effort estimation, reviews, and facilitate discussions with the experts in your team to build consensus.
• Collaborate with your peers and other teams to develop and maintain the Engineering principles, best practices and processes required to deliver quality products & services, driving continuous improvement principles across teams on ways of working.
• Ensure engineering solutions are built with technology that can be supported and operated across multiple functions and adhere to Bango Engineerings principles and best practices.
• Unblocking technical coordination issues by organizing and supporting team members to resolve issues through data-driven decision making.
• Be approachable and supportive to non-technical colleagues and teams in understanding technical challenges and complexities.
• Work with product and project managers to understand business objectives and priorities at a macro level, and relay these into the engineering teams to prioritize activities and support the workload at the micro level.
• Creating, maintaining, and communicating comprehensive engineering delivery plans.
• Escalate risks as appropriate if there are indications that targets will not be reached. Coordinate dependencies and assess risks across multi-team engagements (if applicable).
• Build credibility, establish rapport, and maintain communication with technical stakeholders and developers on specific project issues to facilitate overall success of the project
• Guiding and supporting team members with their personal and professional development.
• Handling communication with external stakeholders as needed
• Line management of multi-disciplinary engineering teams across multiple locations.

Essential Skills

• Professional experience as Technical Project Manager or Engineering Manager in the software engineering/development domain.
• Flexible, adaptable and have a keen interest in working with a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

• Proactive, delivery focused mindset with excellent understanding of Quality Assurance and Technical Governance.
• Experience with line management of technical teams.
• GitLab/GitHub, etc.
• Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
• Ability to keep track of multiple different projects at the same time.
• Experience with typical tools used by software engineering teams, such as Jira, Confluence,

Desirable Skills

• Experience in Telco or Fintech industry.
• Understanding of mobile network operator charging APIs and flows.
• Experience with cross-border projects across multiple time zones and different business cultures.
• Understanding of merchant resale/bundling APIs and flows.
• Experience with working in Cloud Computing such as AWS, Azure or GCP, along with container orchestration or serverless systems.
• Flexibility for occasional international travel.
