What to Expect
Team Overview & Responsibilities:
The Global Business Development team works to analyze markets, shape emerging business models, and advise the energy business on how best to meet Tesla’s mission of accelerating the transition to sustainable energy.
Overview of the Role:
The Business Development Manager is a dynamic role that requires a broad range of skillsets and experience. This role is responsible for owning and executing strategic initiatives and projects, ranging from modeling market fundamentals and trends, to developing new commercial offers across residential, commercial, and utility markets, to synthesizing tough business problems into executive-level decision points. Strong candidates for this role will be well-versed in energy markets and storage technology, and will bring a structured approach to solving problems, strong executive-level communications, and a history of successfully managing a wide array of projects and stakeholders. Working on Tesla's Energy Business Development Team requires wearing many hats and adapting to a fast-paced work environment. Besides a rock-solid work ethic and a strong team-oriented personality, members of the team must display creativity, passion, and a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting landscape.
The role is based at Tesla's offices in Palo Alto, CA. Limited travel is required.
What You’ll Do
  • Analyze new geographies, applications, and business models for energy storage. Develop and implement new market entry strategies and first-of-their-kind projects
  • Lead cross-functional, cross-regional initiatives to align on organizational strategy and present results to leadership
  • Develop and execute on outreach strategies with major market players, potential customers, and potential partners in support of the team's many initiatives
  • Understand emerging industry trends and educate the rest of the company; update strategy, offers, and products accordingly.
What You’ll Bring
  • Required:
  • 3+ years of electricity industry experience with a broad understanding of how the industry works
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to project manage large initiatives with many stakeholders, driving the group to decisions and demonstrating results
  • Ability to define and structure broad asks into logical frameworks for analysis and executive decision-making
  • Very strong analytical skills, including basic financial modeling
  • English fluency
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with energy storage technology and value propositions across residential, C&I, and/or utility verticals
  • 5+ years electricity industry experience
  • Experience with new market entry strategy
  • Non-English language fluency
  • Advanced financial and/or energy storage modeling abilities
