Job Description
The Department of Learning and Engagement at The Museum of Modern Art supports the Museum’s founding educational mission to ensure that people of all ages and abilities “enjoy, understand and use” the art of our time in ways that add value to their lives. The department collaborates across the organization to empower a diverse public to form their own interpretations and connections to art by telling stories, asking questions, actively making and participating in the artistic process, and offering and listening to multiple perspectives. Programs offered by the department range from artist-driven activations to classes, online courses, studio programs, facilitated gallery explorations, workshops, publications and more.

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Associate Educator in the Learning and Engagement Department. The Associate Educator works as part of a team to advance the civic role of the institution by supporting the public in engaging with the museum as a civic space, as well as developing programs and projects that enable MoMA to promote quality of life in New York City. The Associate Educator will also conceive and co-conceive, manage, and facilitate meaningful community-led programs that provide impactful experiences, attract new audiences, and engender critical conversations.

  • Coordinates marketing efforts for Artist Programs and writes and edits promotional content.
  • Under supervision, develops and implements interactive installations, workshops, and programs for the Paula and James Crown Creativity Lab. Develops and produces all aspects of the space by working with artists, internal departments, and external contractors including design and layout, interpretive text, web content, hands-on activities, artist projects, resources, workshops, and conversation programs.
  • Initiates and produces artist-led workshops and seminars. Develops strategy for ongoing community building and networking for artist-audiences participating in the program.
  • Gathers pertinent data, contributes to evaluation and report writing, and tracks expenses.
  • Must be available on weekdays during regular business hours and occasional weekends and evenings as needed.

  • Demonstrated experience working with artists of all backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Basic knowledge of audience engagement and development strategies including writing marketing materials, doing outreach for programs, and designing programs with accessibility and engagement front of mind.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, negotiation and team-building skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with a wide variety of individuals and groups, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and professionalism.
