About The Education Department
The Met’s Department of Education—dedicated to making art meaningful and accessible for everyone— is central to the mission of the Museum. The Department is a national and international leader in museum-based education and public programming, pushing boundaries through continuous innovation and experimentation. In-person and virtual programs include high school and college internships that promote career development and diversity; PreK–12 educator programs that train teachers to integrate art into curricula across disciplines; performances, concerts, lectures and symposia that feature preeminent artists and scholarship; daily tours in multiple languages, and so much more.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
You foster relationships with artists, community members, scholars, curators and practitioners. You develop and support interactive classes and studio workshops for adults and intergenerational audiences. You work with the Managing Educator, Community Engagement and practice, to deliver relevant programs responsive to our contemporary world while promoting public engagement with scholarship and research.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:

• Develop and monitor budgets for programming, oversee and track statistics, and mine data to identify participation trends and inform resource allocation and workflow. Prepare funding reports and other regular updates.
• Identify program formats, collaborations, subject expertise, and engagement strategies to broaden onsite, offsite, and virtual learning communities.
• Contribute programming elements to large-scale Museum events that offer hands-on art making and other interactive experiences to general museum visitors.
• Design experiences that integrate a range of senses, modalities, and materials.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Facilitate artmaking activities, workshops, gallery activities, and creative exercises at the Museum and offsite locations.
• Prepare materials and set-up activities for onsite and offsite programming.
• Develop, organize, and facilitate a suite of artmaking and creative activations for programs, workshops, and special projects for intergenerational, multigenerational, and adult audiences.
• Contribute to exhibition-based programs that advance public understanding of the collection and utilizes the creative practice framework for engaging with artists, artistic practices, and scholars.
• Produce content for print and online materials and work to promote and heighten awareness of various Museum events, programs, and projects.
• Manage, order, and track inventory for art supplies.
• Create lesson plans for artmaking activities that inspire innovation, experimentation, and artistic agency.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledge of New York City and its rich cultural landscape.
• Master’s degree in museum education, museum studies, art history, studio art, or related field; or a combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of art making techniques and disciplines
• Minimum 5 years of experience working in museum education
• Demonstrable experience teaching in a museum environment with varied audiences
• Strong knowledge of art history across cultures and time periods
• Exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-based environment
• Clear ability to multi-task, and close attention to detail
• Demonstrated experience teaching in a museum environment to wide and diverse audience groups
• Background in studio practice is required.
• Demonstrable experience in maintaining key collaborative relationships, in negotiation, and in budgeting within a cultural institution
• Full familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required
• Event management/event production experience preferred
• Exceptional cultural competency skills demonstrated through the ability to understand, communicate, and effectively engage with people across cultures.
• Track record of creating and implementing successful lecture-based and art making programs that attract broad audiences
• Experience working with artists, scholars, and big thinkers to envision public programs

COMPENSATION RANGE:

• Pay Range : $85,000 - $90,000
• The advertised pay scale reflects the good faith minimum and maximum salary range for this role. The advertised pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage for any specific employee. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, special licensing or qualifications, and other factors.

Location Requirements
At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
