General Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreation, Natural Resource Management, Parks and Tourism, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Six years of full-time paid experience in a professional, supervisory capacity of an outdoor recreation facility, residential camp facility, or recreation-based program. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose Of Position/Usual Duties
Provides professional work responsible for managing the SHSU outdoor recreation programs and facilities. Assists the Recreational Sports staff in departmental programs, events, and facilities.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only)
Manages the Outdoor Recreation programs, facilities, and personnel. Oversees areas that include University Camp (200-bed residential camp facility that includes meeting rooms, a dining hall, a waterfront, a challenge course, and a swimming pool.), Bearkat Camp, Outdoor Adventure program, and the indoor climbing wall. Cultivates and maintains community partnerships. Organizes, develops, and manages, with the support of staff and student personnel, one or more specific program areas within the scope of the recreational sports and activities administration. Formulates and recommends policy, procedural, and rule changes. Interprets policies within each program and facility. Interviews, hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates support personnel. Compiles budgetary information relative to program area. Makes equipment recommendations. Works directly with student groups, organizations, departments, alumni, government officials, vendors, and others as necessary. Prepares reports, analyses, evaluations, and proposals as required. Promotes specific activities and coordinates publicity within a program area. Serves on community, state, or national committees as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
