Job Description

FCTG is an industry leader who has grown to become the largest distributor of forest products in North America, exceeding sales of over $6 billion in 2022. We are looking to hire a Director of Training who will help raise the bar on our training programs, with the primary focus on sharing best practices and leveraging technology to drive optimal results.


In this newly created position, you will have the opportunity to work with 11 separate operating companies to help enhance existing content and execution of current training programs. As a prominent player in the wood and building products distribution and trading channels throughout North America, most of the training will focus primarily on sales roles, while also working collaboratively with other functional departments as needed (ie. IT, Operations, etc). The ideal candidate for this position is a proven leader who is equipped with influence skills and thrives in a matrixed management structured environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop and nurture meaningful relationships with our individual operating companies (opco’s) by partnering with leadership teams to assess, strategize and assist with delivering of training methods
  • Drive best practices in commodity sales trading by collaborating and sharing insights for all FCTG operating companies
  • Recommend new training methods, tools and approaches, as well as establishing and overseeing vendor and consultant relationships
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify training gaps and provide customized solutions to enhance performance


Education and Experience:


  • Proven leader who has influence skills and thrives in a matrixed management structure
  • 5 - 10+ years of training or learning experience with at least 3 years’ experience in design and delivery of sales training
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, training, education, human resources, psychology, or relevant field of study. Master’s degree preferred


Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated ability to quickly establish rapport, build credibility and create partnerships at all levels internally and externally.
  • Ability to travel as needed to supporting business units
  • Ability to motivate, influence and coach senior leadership, stakeholders, and peer groups on best training practices
  • Proven experience in organizing and designing educational curriculum using Adult Learning Theory as well as versed in all training modalities (including but not limited to workshops, simulations, e-learning, classroom instruction and coaching)
  • Track record and measurable results in translating vision into strategy and delivering results.
  • Proven experience in delivering and managing a Learning Management System (LMS)
