  • Provides guidance to less experienced HR team members regarding daily operations. Makes recommendations and implements new methods on how to execute operations.
  • Assists HR Director in handling terminations, layoffs, disciplinary matters and resolution of grievances.
  • Education:*Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field of study. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Assists in the development, streamlining and documentation of human resources processes and procedures.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities *
  • Essential Functions*
  • Initiates employee actions for review regarding reclassifications, reassignments, and promotions, ensuring all necessary documentation to support the request is provided.
  • Oversees recruitment process for SSW staff positions. Including review of job descriptions, recommendations on advertisements and obtaining appropriate approvals.
  • Manages the performance evaluation process for staff positions and ensures SSW compliance. Communicates with supervisors regarding the performance development policy.
  • Reviews and analyzes HR metrics. Develops reports from the HRIS system as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgement.
  • Provides support answering and troubleshooting employee related inquiries using appropriate policies, procedures and understanding of federal, state and local employment laws. Refers complex/sensitive matters to the HR Director, as appropriate.
  • Assists the HR Director with the development and implementation of HR-related training.
  • The University of Maryland School of Social Work (SSW) has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Human Resources Manager to join their administrative team.* Reporting to the School of Social Work Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Human Resources Manager is responsible for managing the daily business operations within the school’s Office of Human Resources.   • Provides guidance on daily operations, utilizing best practices in human resources. Coordinates and collaborates with campus HR on multiple service items to ensure timely and accurate execution of employee actions and other HR processes are in order. Keeps confidentiality related to all sensitive information and interactions.
  • Develops and compiles exit interview data to track trends to improve retention.
  • Supervisory Experience:*One (1) year in work coordination, training, and daily oversight of staff, students, or volunteers.
  • Supports and leads onboarding actions, conducts new employee orientation and develops ways to improve the onboarding experience.
  • Researches, analyzes and resolves issues related to employee relations, recruitment or other items as requested.
  • Experience:*Three (3) years of experience in the human resource field. General knowledge of human resource laws, practices, and policies is required. Higher education experience is preferred.
  • Independently coordinate recruitment data and partners with Campus HR to improve employment life cycle to ensure timely follow up on open positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to compile, evaluate and present data. Ability to formulate and implement solutions for improvements.
  • Certification/Licensure:*SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
