Provide leadership, direction and the development of the strategic plan and execution for the $6B addressable ( $8B Total) global indirect spend for the corporation. Responsible for delivering annual savings targets and value capture via category strategic deployment, relationship management, organizational leadership, and driving continuous improvement. This position will engage with business unit and functional leadership to ensure delivery of effective procurement strategies and standards that deliver to Medtronic’s overall operations and business results. This position will sit in the Enterprise policy board and in the extended leadership team of the CFO. Medtronic Global Indirect Supply Management organization was recognized in the top quartile of all procurement functions as rated by Hackett in January 2023 and in the top 10% of all life science companies.
A Day in the Life
· Leads and directs the activities of multiple functional areas through senior directors and directors with overall responsibility for the direction of those assigned areas. Determines organizational structures and allocation of subordinate management responsibilities to meet business objectives.
· Categories of oversight include the following:
· Professionals Services (e.g. Consulting; Finance; Legal; Marketing)
· Human Resources: Contingent Labor; Benefits; Fleet; Training, etc.
· Facilities and Real Estate Management including Print Services
· Information Systems and Technology
· Travel, Meetings and Events; and Expense Management
· Indirect Center of Excellence
· International Supply Management Office (Indirect Spend Organization OUS)
· Provides leadership to regional sourcing teams in EMEA, APAC ,LATAM and Greater China through direct reports located globally with their teams.
· Provide input to the Companies Global Source to Pay process improvements (Medtronic Purchasing Portal)
· Develop and organization of Subject Matter Expertise to partner with the businesses to drive maximum value to the organization via sourcing events and policy development.
· Focus on supply market intelligence through opportunity identification and validation, supplying market research, market forecasts and external market analyses.
· Keep up to date on category opportunities by benchmarking other industries to provide projects and programs custom to Medtronic.
· Relationship management – Develop and measure supplier performance, resolve customer issues and focus on supplier development. Integrate data and collect information related to indirect spend management.
· Strategic vision for indirect supply management excellence through benchmarked processes and drive continuous improvement across Medtronic.
· Maintain relationship with all key indirect stakeholder leadership functions across the various indirect categories currently centralized or via the indirect team members embedded in the business units.
· Build organizational awareness and support in combination with dissemination of knowledge,
· Drive results and create a sense of urgency through process and project management.
· Change management as it relates to supplier development strategies.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of the latest supply chain management techniques and familiarity with Lean Sigma.
- Proven knowledge/experience in a number of the indirect categories listed above.
- Demonstrated ability in implementation of change within a sophisticated organization. Excellent soft skills and emotional EQ.
- Procurement Transformation experience in implementing end to end solutions such as Source to Pay – preferably in an SAP environment.
- Solid track record of cost reduction and productivity improvement. Proven knowledge around budget planning and execution.
- Is able to develop strong relationships with leaders at all levels and areas of responsibility within the company. Ability to understand and align with business unit strategies.
- 4 year bachelor degree; MBA preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of supply management, strategic sourcing, and category management. Solid experience in a highly technical &/or regulated industry.
- Well-rounded business person and sourcing professional, capable of contributing to the strategic development and implementation of corporate-wide supply chain/sourcing initiatives that may be outside the umbrella of purely “global sourcing.”
· Demonstrated ability to formulate and deploy business strategy.
· Proven business acumen.
· Ability to present to and influence large audiences.
· Track record of delivering results with a “passion to win.”
· Proven ability to apply situational leadership concepts across various intra and inter-departmental matters.
· Strong oral/ written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated time management, decision making, presentation and organization skills.
· Exceptional analytical skills to adequately analyze and interpret complex business situations.
· Ability to tolerate a high degree of ambiguity.
· Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
· Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
