We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Vice President, Digital Health Innovations on our Physician Satisfaction team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office.

As a Vice President, Digital Health Innovations you will build and lead the AMA’s strategy to improve physician practice sustainability and professional satisfaction by shaping the future of digital health. Develop and execute the strategy through effective partnerships, engaging with various functional units and recruit, train and mentor a high-performing team. Goals include to improve the EHR experience and accelerate the adoption of safe, effective, and connected digital health solutions, including AI. Collaborate with units across the organization to ensure alignment on all aspects of digital health and impact metrics. Represent the digital health strategy and serve as medical expert within the AMA to executive management, governance groups, and appropriate external entities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy, Planning, and Business Development:
  • Participate in the leadership of the Professional Satisfaction and Practice Sustainability group and support AMA’s overall strategic initiatives.
  • Strengthen the AMA as a leader in the innovation ecosystem by leading relationships with partners such as MATTER, Sling Health, national accelerators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Lead the strategic planning process with the involvement of the senior management team to define AMA’s role and relevancy in digital health and health tech-related opportunities, including improving the EHR user experience, the advancement of appropriate AI, healthcare at home, and other digital health technologies. Collect business intelligence, identify opportunities, and test assumptions to further define and accelerate AMA’s digital health strategy. Represent the ongoing digital health needs and requirements of physicians and care teams through initiatives, partnerships, and resource/product development.
  • Assess and maximize the fit of our digital health strategy objectives and opportunities with adjacent AMA initiatives and programs, such as the Integrated Health Data Model Initiative, Health2047, Improving Health Outcomes, and Advocacy.
  • Develop and provide thought leadership through research and collaborations with key external stakeholder groups and serve as a medical subject matter expert on behalf of our strategy through presentations at national conferences/events, and representing AMA on advisory boards (e.g. MATTER, Pulse MassChallenge).

Integrated Program Management and Operations:
  • Oversee the development and oversight of management, project, and product development plans. Interact with the corporate review team, legal, and finance as required.
  • Plan and direct the operations of the digital health strategy group including coordination of key stakeholders and operational resources across the AMA.
  • Identify budget, staffing, and funding needs to achieve outcomes.
  • Create and manage a communications strategy with internal and external partners to disseminate our work and accomplish key goals.
  • Develop and implement programs, processes, and partnerships focused on improving the EHR user experience, advancement of physician-led AI, connecting physician input with innovators, disseminating mHealth guidance, accelerating the adoption of digital health solutions, and strengthening the AMA as a leader in the innovation ecosystem.

Staff Management:
  • Lead and manage staff to ensure optimal performance related to our strategic goals.
  • Determine staffing requirements and hire and train staff, as required.
  • Set objectives and monitor performance, develop staff to potential, and attend to succession planning as needed.

Evaluation and Reporting:
  • Understand strategic initiatives across the organization, aligning digital health strategy as appropriate and contributing to the overall AMA mission and business trajectory.
  • Create impact-focused metrics and processes.
  • Track and report on progress towards goals and objectives for the digital health strategy.
  • Present analyses and recommendations to cross-functional implementation teams and senior and executive management.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Demonstrated experience as primary manager of complex matrixed programs with projects, budgets, direct reports, partnerships and accountability for outcomes.
  • Experience with innovation and digital health stakeholders, preferably for physicians.
  • Experience working with evolving concept development and a comfort level dealing with ambiguity in an evolving strategic setting.
  • Strong written, analytical and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting in a large group setting.
  • MD or DO required, additional education in business, economics, health care administration, or related field preferred. Background in informatics desirable.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and track record of working collaboratively in a matrixed and complicated environment.
  • Moderate travel required.
  • The ability to think strategically and build a strategic roadmap and then translate broad concepts into detailed, tactical, and executable plans is critical, as well as being able to see the whole while working on the parts and understand when course corrections may be necessary.
  • Strong analysis skills aligned with a demonstrated ability to work with ambiguous evidence and adapt effectively to changing circumstances.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare delivery and the physician role as a practicing physician, with understanding of the digital health challenges physician face.
  • Exhibit initiative, leadership, self-confidence, good judgment, and the ability to make decisions in a timely fashion.
  • 7+ year of experience in people management; able to grow and develop talent.
