Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Vice President of Corporate Development will be responsible for leading the team that executes on Tenet’s M&A and inorganic business strategy.


The focus of this position will be to assess and manage a portfolio of concurrent strategic transactions that support Tenet’s growth and effective deployment of assets and capital across operating business lines. The role is based in Dallas, with moderate travel required in order to effectively execute the plan. Creativity, innovation, self-reliance, and an intuitive sense of deal pace and momentum are keys to success in this position. Experience successfully driving small and large M&A transactions will be necessary. In addition, one’s ability to effectively assess and prioritize strategic opportunities for Tenet’s involvement along with skillful management of the relationships involved, will add to the efficiency and reduced cycle-time in getting complex, enterprise-level transactions finalized. An understanding of the regulatory context of the Healthcare industry is also needed, as is a sound understanding of contracts and comfort level partnering with counsel to help drive opportunities to closure.


Assessing the market opportunity and building / managing a team to capture the opportunity is a critical part of the job.


Essential duties and responsibilities will include the following:


  • Evaluate general and specific business conditions and keep executive team informed on these matters, as well as participate with other Executives in developing strategy and corporate objectives and plans for their achievement, including key investment criteria and thresholds.
  • Develop and prepare short-term and long-range development plans and budgets based on corporate goals and objectives and recommends their adoption to members of the Executive Team.
  • Ensure post acquisition synergies and expected performance targets are met during and after the business integration period.
  • Interface and communicate effectively with all company departments.
  • Partner with business leaders before, during and after the M&A processes, to ensure the deals make strategic sense, fit with forward-looking business plans, and are integrated smoothly and fully optimized.
  • Provide effective decision framework to the Executive Leadership Team to assess the quality of potential acquisitions, divestitures, or other strategic transactions.
  • Build, manage, and lead the Tenet corporate development team. Develop a robust M&A pipeline management process, inclusive of potential divestitures.
  • Develop and guide due diligence and negotiations for new opportunities as well as ensuring the accurate and timely valuation of acquisition targets.
  • Direct and organize activities to achieve or exceed budgeted results and other financial criteria to enhance the growth and value of the company.

  • Experience in selling a concept and service versus a product.
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo by encouraging openness to new ideas and aggressively changing existing strategies, current structures, systems and processes to better utilize resources and take advantage of opportunities.


REQUIRED SKILLS:


Required Skills:


  • The successful candidate will have been recognized for excellence in executing his/her national development responsibilities and corporate management duties in a comparably large and complex organization, or in advising clients of a similar scale as an investment banker in a bulge bracket firm.
  • Experience working with health systems whose recognition and reputation for excellence and quality place them at or near the top of the U.S. healthcare delivery system. In addition, experience in a high-growth, for-profit and fast paced company is a must.
  • The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree, and an MBA or relevant graduate degree is preferred.
