Vehicle For Hire Inspector

Requirements

MOS CODE: (Airforce) 2T300

Education and Experience : A High school diploma, GED, or higher and one (1) year of experience involving public contact or general clerical work.

Licenses and Certificates : Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, perform vehicle for hire enforcement activities including the inspection of taxis, limousines and charter vehicles for proper licensing, and conformance with Safe Riders Program.

Typical Duties

Perform vehicle for hire enforcement activities including the inspection of taxis, limousines and charter vehicles for proper insurance, licenses and inspection certificates. Involves: Inspect vehicles for cleanliness and mechanical safety, patrol the City and airport for violators. Investigate complaints against drivers and issue citations or notices of violation as appropriate. Maintain liaison with police department and other law enforcement agencies. Investigate and prepare reports of incidents. Conduct special operations to search for illegal vehicles/operators by means of surveillance. Testify in court as necessary. Observe of safe work practices.

Assist with processing vehicle for hire operator licensing. Involves: Process applications for vehicle for hire licenses and conduct background checks on individuals applying for licensing. Answer questions about the licensing process, review applications, administer and grade licensing tests. Install and inspect meter seals in taxicabs.

Perform duties of coworkers as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences. Enforce parking statutes and regulations and issue citations to violators. Assist in pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow at the airport. Detain suspects pending assistance from sworn officers. Complete reports as required and maintain accurate records.

Establish and maintain positive community relationships. Involves: Provide education about El Paso Police Department and traffic regulations to the community in accordance with the Safe Riders Program. Installation and inspection of car seats.
