YOUR ROLE
The Procurement Transportation Manager will lead a team which will develop sourcing plans, create mode procurement strategies, identify cost saving opportunities, and conduct quarterly carrier reviews. In addition, responsibilities include sourcing support for key business initiatives, carrier market research/ intelligence to support business decisions and establishment of local agreements.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
- Lead the strategy for US Transportation requirements
- Perform fleet assessment to secure annual DOT SmartWay certification.
- Utilize advance sourcing tools and techniques to drive transparency in the market leading to optimal pricing
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of relevant ground transport modes (FTL, LTL, Drayage and Parcel)
- Create contracts and negotiate favorable terms that deliver value and mitigate risk to the company
- Manage a category team including aligning resources and exercising operational leadership (motivation, delegation, communications and team building).
- Enhance the asset management function though effective utilization monitoring and timely repositioning and disposal of surplus assets.
- Maximize gains on the disposal of company assets by increasing the market size of potential buyers and by negotiating favorable pricing.
- Manage the company’s Warehouse consumables initiates.
- Initiate sourcing initiatives from demand analysis to contract implementation including carrier negotiations.
- Support the BD and ZDS teams in efforts to secure new business or maintain existing accounts.
- Establish and manage good working relationships with other functions including Operations, Solutions Design, and Business Development.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Logistics or Engineering is preferred
- Minimum 5 years of fleet operational and procurement experience
- Extensive knowledge of ground transportation is required
- Experience with e-sourcing tools is a plus
- Extensive knowledge of Contract Logistics and Freight Management businesses is a plus
Additional Skills and Experience that Contribute to Success:
- Knowledge of high-value negotiation and sourcing processes and methodologies
- Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in demanding environments with tight deadlines
- Must be able to communicate and relate to all levels of the organization both verbally and in written form
- Team player and collaborative leadership capabilities
- Financial acumen and fundamental knowledge of accounting and financial statements
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
- Analytical, problem solver, self-starter, leader, strong negotiation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications
