Summer Intern- I/O Psychology / Human Resources

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in large-scale implementation of new HRIS (Human Resource Information System)
• Onboarding- Assemble new hire packets, work with hiring managers to create onboarding checklists, assist with new-hire orientations
• Plan company activities and social events
• Assist with HR filing, recordkeeping, auditing
• Recruitment- View resumes, phone screen applicants, schedule interviews, assist hiring manager in conducting interviews
• Wellness- Organize and lead a wellness initiative (e.g., Biggest Loser, Steps Challenge)
• Meet with supervisors and incumbents to update job descriptions
• Update and verify current licensure and certification of staff
• Develop trainings on various HR & Leadership topics
• Track performance appraisals
• Attend leadership meetings

Qualifications

• Must be a current college student, or a student who is graduating and will be attending graduate school in the fall. Preference given to upper-class students or graduate student.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Preference given to students pursuing a human resources career, majoring in psychology (with emphasis in industrial/organizational coursework), business administration, or HR management.
• Preference for completion of some coursework in the areas of industrial/organizational psychology, human resource management, organizational behavior, employment law, and business.

Location & Work Hours

• Work is to be performed between Monday – Friday, approximately mid-to-late May to mid-August.
• Average hours per week: 30+, dependent on the student’s availability and business needs.
• Location: Columbia, Missouri
• While this is a summer internship, there is a possibility of continued work into the fall and/or winter break, dependent on the needs of the organization and the student’s interest and availability.

Reporting Structure

• This intern will report to the Director of Human Resources who holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

Compensation

• This is a paid internship opportunity. Exact compensation to be determined based on education level completed and prior related experience.
