Benson Executive Search has been retained by a mission-driven Non-Profit Human Services organization for a Senior Director, Human Resources to lead and contribute to the development and growth of employees providing these critical services to people and families in need. This Sr. Director of Human Resources will be an important member of the executive team, contributing strategy while providing hands-on leadership to inspire, create and execute strategies and programs aligned to culture, mission and values while ensuring performance and the delivery of current and new services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
- Identifies and creates development opportunities to enrich the lives of employees (example: personal financial management and coaching).
- Ensures people and business processes and practices comply with regulatory and legal requirements to minimize risk to the organization.
- Provides support and guidance to management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise. Assists management with performance concerns, disciplinary action and conflict management issues.
- Creates effective communications and measures to ensure comprehension and adoption of benefits and programs to all employees.
- As a member of the Executive Team, understands and executes the organization’s HR and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, development and succession planning.
- Serves as a trusted resource and advisor to Executive Team and all employees, guiding them through interpersonal and development conversations.
- Co-leads the Safety and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Teams.
- Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees and administers skill-based volunteer opportunities.
- Creates and administers HR programs including, but not limited to staffing, compensation, benefits, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, and morale; workplace health and safety; and training and development.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants for all roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Oversees, utilizes and maintains the Human Resource Information System (HRIS), including installation, customization, and upgrades to applications, systems, and modules.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Administers union contract and acts as a liaison between the organization and the union.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) is required.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.
- 10+ years of HR leadership experience required.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
- Excellent project management, organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Experience in a Labor/Union environment, including CBA negotiation.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
