Job Responsibilities

• Performs all other related duties as assigned by the shift supervisor.
• Position is assigned to RHU and is eligible for the $2500 incentive
• Under direct supervision of the shift lieutenant, provides direction and instruction to inmates and officers in a program of discipline, safety, security, and rehabilitation of inmates in a maximum-security facility.
• Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
• Investigates inmate complaints and takes appropriate action; instructs and counsels inmates as required.
• Performs essential and marginal duties of an officer II
• Assists lieutenant in evaluating officer performance provides direct supervision to subordinate officers.
• Reviews incident reports written by officers. Instructs and counsels officers concerning duty requirements.

Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and experience in correctional, security or police work
SCDC Minimum Requirements: (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

• Eighteen (18) months of experience in correctional, security, military or police work.
• A high school diploma

Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the Basic Supervisory Course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
