Job Description
Job Responsibilities


  • Ensures adequate safety & security of institution, inmates and public.
  • Receives, reviews, and prepares written reports. maintains a current master key control inventory of all keys & locks.
  • Maintains control of all institutional keys and security equipment within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Is up to date on the daily and quarterly inventories.
  • Instructs and supervises staff of procedure to secure keys carried on the yard is up to date on policy and procedures of issuance, storage, emergency, and restricted keys.


Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma.
SCDC Minimum Requirements: (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
  • Eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
  • A high school diploma.
Must successfully complete Basic Certification Training at the South Carolina Department of Corrections Training Academy within six (6) months of entry into the position.
