Job Description
Company Description
Wood Mackenzie is the global research, analytics, and consultancy business powering the natural resources industry. For 50 years, we have been providing the quality data, analytics, and insights our customers rely on to inspire their decision-making.
Our dedicated oil, gas & LNG, power & renewables, chemicals, metals & mining sector teams are located around the world and deliver a variety of projects based on our assessment and valuation of thousands of individual assets, companies, and economic indicators such as market supply, demand, and price trends.
We have over 1,900 employees in 30 locations, serving customers in nearly 80 countries. Together, we inspire and innovate the markets we serve – providing invaluable intelligence to help our customers overcome the toughest challenges, and make strategic decisions that will, ultimately, accelerate the world’s transition to a more sustainable future.

Role Purpose
As a Senior Consultant, you will play a key role in our growing Americas consulting practice, with involvement in all aspects of the consulting process, from shaping the opportunity, performing the analysis, and working closely with clients and Wood Mackenzie experts to develop insights that support critical strategic decisions.
This role requires a high level of creative thinking and problem-solving abilities combined with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. The candidate will frequently engage with and work alongside senior client teams and must be prepared for regular travel throughout the Americas region and, on occasion, globally.
Our consultants have outstanding credentials, first-class connections with key energy and mining industry decision-makers globally and an unrivalled knowledge of regional and local markets.
Examples of recent projects our Consulting practice have engaged in include:
  • Advise a leading North American financial institution on financing opportunities in the Carbon Capture, Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS) space in North American and European markets.
  • Identifying key industry trends and establishing strategic initiatives for a National Oil Company (NOC) to thrive through the upcoming Energy Transition
  • Conducting an opportunity screening exercise for a large European infrastructure player considering an asset or company acquisition in the North America natural gas, NGL, hydrogen and CO2 midstream and storage industry
  • Evaluating a US hydrogen filling station business, understanding the hydrogen market dynamics, supply and environmental attributes requirements and financial evaluation of the business model to support a first-of-kind financing
  • Working with a renewable power generation company part of a wider infrastructure fund to develop a growth strategy which is supported by the future trends in power markets
Main Responsibilities
As a Senior Consultant at Wood Mackenzie, you will take ownership for the delivery of important parts of the assignment under coordination and supervision of your project manager:
  • Train and coach junior team members on day-to-day consulting tasks and ensuring successful project delivery
  • Lead and execute complex analysis of commodity or power markets and project economics, while leveraging our industry research and expertise
  • Collaborate and work cohesively with project teams under the guidance of a project manager/director
  • Build and present compelling presentations conveying key messages and recommendations concisely for a senior audience
Build and leverage a thorough and current understanding of energy markets and energy transition themes, and be able to effectively discuss recent events and implications with clients and colleagues
Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of consulting experience – management consulting or energy-related consulting – is required. Additional experience within the energy or natural resources sectors is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant quantitative or science discipline such as business, economics, finance, statistics, or engineering. MBA or Master’s degree is a plus.
Core Competencies
  • Client focused attitude – dedication to meeting the client’s needs and anticipating potential issues in project delivery
  • Relationship minded – valuing engagement with others (clients, Wood Mackenzie colleagues, and others) and seeking to share your ideas and learn from their insights to build greater solutions together
  • Communicator - you can communicate effectively and clearly articulate key messages and ideas, appropriate for the audience
  • Quantitative analysis – comfort with building models that demonstrate potential outcomes for markets, projects, and asset financials
  • Focus on efficiency – executing analysis and presentation creation with quality and accuracy, with minimal rework
  • Dedication and resiliency – taking ownership in your work and building on your experiences
  • Issues based problem solving – the ability to identify the critical questions, problems, and issues related to a client’s decision
  • Curiosity – having a keen interest in the global energy and/or metals industries and a willingness to explore new frontiers of traditional markets and the Energy Transition
