ENERGY AND CLIMATE TECHNICAL ANALYST
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Blue Strike Environmental’s Climate and Energy Senior Technical Analyst will be a qualified professional with experience in climate and energy modeling, consulting or research. The position is part of the Climate and Energy Team, and will report to the Team’s Director. Blue Strike’s offices are located in Monterey, CA and Boston, MA. The position will be hybrid in nature, with a mix of office/remote work.

As the Climate and Energy Team, we help our clients reduce their carbon output, by developing and evaluating strategies in categories of energy efficiency, renewable energy solutions, fuel reduction, and others. We also help clients to develop policies and actions that address both upstream and downstream emissions. We provide financial and economic due diligence for renewable energy projects and programs; and we offer regulatory and governance consulting for utilities, communities and regulatory commissions.
THE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven ability to write public-facing documents, including technical reports.
- Undergraduate degree in Economics, Engineering, Finance, Energy and Resource Studies, Climate Science, Renewable Energy, Environmental Studies and/or Sciences, or a related field.
- Self-starter with proven ability to work well within a team setting.
- Deep familiarity with Excel, including experience building computational models.
IN ADDITION, THE IDEAL CANDIDATE MAY HAVE SOME OF THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND BACKGROUND
- Experience with energy modeling tools such as PLEXOS, PROMOD, and GE MAPS (production cost models), MARKAL/TIMES, NEMS, and OSeMOSYS (capacity expansion models), RE-SAT, HOMER, and WIS:dom or CREST (Renewable Energy Integration Models), or load forecasting models.
- Graduate degree in Economics, Engineering, Finance, Energy and Resource Studies, or a related field.
- Experience with Microsoft’s Power Platform.
- Experience with Excel, VBA, R, Python, PowerBI, or related programming languages and applications.
- Experience with a range of energy and climate change topics including life cycle assessment, greenhouse gas inventories, renewable energy development and financing.
- A proven track record of successful project management, business development and public speaking (with references).
- Experience developing integrated resource plans with utilities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Assistance:
- Provide subject-matter expertise to support work plan development, prepare and review deliverables, support analyses, evaluation, and delivery of project scope
- Participate in the business development efforts of the firm by writing proposals, building a team, and developing new practice areas for clients and potential clients
- Provide technical assistance to project activities and modeling data using scenario analysis tools. (ICLEI’s ClearPath, CRAFT, GCAM to name a few)
- Enhance Blue Strike’s technical reputation through thought leadership in areas of sustainability, climate change strategy, life cycle assessment, energy efficiency, carbon accounting and green infrastructure
Project Management
- Coordinate project personnel, schedules, budgets, timelines and deliverables
- Develop new business opportunities as appropriate
- Support project key personnel in completion of overall contract objectives and activities
- Interact regularly with clients, counterparts, and partners on relevant technical issues and opportunities, as needed
- Track and monitor project performance including schedule, revenue, and expenditures
- Ensure quality control of project deliverables and communications with clients
- Identify/anticipate long-range activities and problems/constraints of the project, key personnel, and the client
